With the first week of school underway, it was time for the Alva FFA Chapter to start their beginning of the year activities. The Annual FFA Ice Cream Social was held on Thursday the 15 and was a huge hit. The Social was attended by 26 FFA members, as well as numerous 4-H members, community members, and parents. Attendees spent the time enjoying ice cream and baked goods, and playing cornhole.
On Friday, August 16, the Intermediate and Senior FFA Livestock Judging Teams, as well as a couple of 4-H members, attended the Interstate Fair Livestock Judging Contest in Coffeyville, KS. All teams did very well, but special recognition was given to the Intermediate Livestock Judging Team for placing second.
This team consisted of Merritt Mantz, Falynn Thomas, and Whitney Hanks. Larson Mantz, a 4-H member, placed first in the Junior Division. On Saturday, August 17, the Livestock Judging Teams attended the Woodward County
Free Fair Livestock Judging Contest.
This contest was another day full of winning, as the Senior FFA Team placed second, consisting of Kaylee Springer, Brady Lott, Avery McMurphy, and Ember Sandoval. The Junior FFA Team placed first, and their team consisted of Allison Blocker, Falynn Thomas, Merritt Mantz, and Whitney Hanks. Allison Blocker was awarded the honor of
being the High Individual in the Junior FFA Division.
This week FFA members began selling Blue and Gold Sausage. Blue and Gold is the only fundraiser that the Alva FFA Chapter participates in all year. Our generous sponsors who buy Blue and Gold support us in many ways from paying for us to enter Career Development Contests to helping us buy study supplies to making sure we put on good local events each year. If you have not already bought any Blue and Gold, contact a local FFA member. Sausage costs
$10, Bacon costs $20, and Chicken costs $27. Orders are due before August 30, 2024, and orders
will be delivered the week of September 9.
