On Tuesdays, Senior Farm and Ranch Broadcaster, Ron Hays, visits with Ben Hale of Western Livestock Auctions as he talks about the latest in the markets and more. Established in 1995, Western has grown into a multi-generational family-owned and operated business and stands as a symbol of tradition, excellence, and a deep-rooted passion for the cattle industry. Western Livestock Auctions are located in Oklahoma City, Woodward, and Comanche.
Heavy rainfall significantly limited the movement of cattle into the Oklahoma National Stockyards on Monday. They ran less than 2,000 head compared to 8,100 a year ago.
“It was a good general rain over all of the wheat country,” Hale said. “It was just what we needed to fill up these stock ponds and tanks, and to give the wheat a drink.”
Hale expects the sales at Woodward and Comanche to also be lighter this week, and with more rain in the forecast, he expects next week’s sales to also run fewer cattle through.
“It’s not a bad thing,” he said. “It’s still warm enough for growing wheat and there was some guys who said they thought their Bermuda grass was greening back up and growing. It’s not a bad thing to have right here before winter.”
Hale can be contacted at 940-631-2333. Check out more about the marketing options that Western offers by clicking here.
