Representative Stephanie Bice Gives Thanks

As we approach Thanksgiving, a time traditionally set aside for reflection and gratitude, it is essential for us to come together and pause, even in the midst of our differences. This holiday is an opportunity to appreciate what we have as communities, families, and as a country. In a time when our country often feels divided, Thanksgiving reminds us of the importance of unity. It gives us a chance to stop and reflect on the things that matter most.

The history of Thanksgiving is traced back to 1610 in America. It wasn’t until 1863, during a period of national division, that President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday. During the conflict, Lincoln called upon the nation to pause and give thanks, to remember the blessings that unite us. This call to unity is as relevant today as it was then. It wasn’t until 1941 that Congress certified the celebration for the fourth Thursday in November every year. This solidified Thanksgiving as a tradition that Americans across the country embrace, each in their own way.

This year, as we gather around our tables, I am especially thankful for the many freedoms we enjoy as citizens of this great nation. America was built on the ideals of liberty; freedom from tyranny, the right to speak our minds, and the opportunity to build a better future for ourselves and our children. America stands as a beacon of democracy, a model for the world, even as our adversaries seek to undermine us. We must never forget that freedom comes at a cost, and I am eternally grateful for the men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line to protect the freedoms we hold dear.

Personally, I am deeply thankful for the privilege of representing the people of Oklahoma’s Fifth District. Oklahoma has always been my home, and it is an honor to serve its communities. While we may not agree on every issue, it is my commitment to always fight for the people of this district through thoughtful legislation, constituent services, or simply lending a listening ear. I will continue to work every day to ensure that the voices of my constituents are heard and that our shared values are reflected in the decisions made in Washington.

I wish you all a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
