On Tuesdays, Senior Farm and Ranch Broadcaster Ron Hays visits with Ben Hale of Western Livestock Auctions as he talks about the latest in the markets and more. Established in 1995, Western has grown into a multi-generational family-owned and operated business and stands as a symbol of tradition, excellence, and a deep-rooted passion for the cattle industry. Western Livestock Auctions operates the Western Livestock Commission Firm, which sells cattle on Mondays and Tuesdays. They also operate the livestock auction markets in Woodward, Comanche, and Knoxville, Iowa.
During the conversation, Hale was attending a meeting with the Livestock Marketing Association in Washington, D.C., where he met with Senator Markwayne Mullin, Congressman Frank Lucas, U.S. Representative Stephanie Bice, and others.
“I had a real good talk with some of them about issues in the cattle industry,” he shared. “It’s easy to get good reactions from those folks because they pretty well see it the same way we do, so it’s been a good trip here at D.C.”
At the Oklahoma National Stockyards in Oklahoma City, 5,000 head changed hands on Monday. “Compared to about 6,200 head a year ago, it was stronger on feeders – $2 to $5 better. The grazers were about $4 – $8 better this week, again.”
Rain put some producers off in Comanche last week, so Hale expects good numbers at tomorrow’s sale as those missed loads return. He also anticipates good numbers at the Woodward sale later this week, similar to last week’s sale.
