The Canadian County OSU Extension Office is hosting the Central Oklahoma Wheat Conference, Monday, August 4, 2025. There will be 2 ODAFF CEU credits offered for private pesticide, commercial applicators, and research & demonstration. The conference will be held at the Canadian Valley Technology Center Seminar Room, 6505 E. Hwy 66. El Reno, OK. We will start at 8:00 a.m. with Ag Coffee Connections, and the first speaker will kick off at 8:30 a.m.
Kyle Worthington, Canadian County Extension Director, has planned the wheat conference around critical management decisions that Oklahoma wheat farmers are faced with annually. Each speaker will be providing the latest research and cropping consultation, to assist Oklahoma Wheat Farmers to planning a successful 2026 wheat harvest. “The key points from each speaker will provide important decision-making tools, as our area farmers plan timely management decisions in efforts to produce another abundant wheat crop next summer,” said Worthington.
The conference agenda and speaker line up will begin with our Ag Coffee Connections from 8-8:30 a.m. The Keynote speaker is Dr. Amanda Oliveria Silva, OSU Wheat Specialist, addressing the OSU Replicated wheat trial results and newest wheat varieties being released for wheat production at 8:30 a.m.
The following morning speaker will be Dr. Alberto Amador Leal Gonzalez, West District OSU Extension Ag Economist, with a new approach to developing Cash Flow Statements for your Wheat Crop and to provide to your ag lender. Dr. Ashleigh Faris, OSU Assistant Professor of Entomology and Plant Pathology, focusing on Insect pest monitoring, identification, and control options for wheat with 1 ODAFF Private and Commercial Ag CEU Credit.
The luncheon is sponsored by Banner COOP, CHS, Shawnee Mills, Helena Ag, and Wheeler Brothers Grain. The luncheon speaker is Mike Schulte, Oklahoma Wheat Commission, providing the current Wheat Council updates, followed by industry updates from our luncheon sponsors.
The afternoon speaker line up begins with Dr. Liberty Galvin, OSU Extension Weed Scientist. She will be presenting her herbicide-resistant weeds and herbicide options. The capstone speaker will be followed by Josh Bushong, West District OSU Extension Agronomist, as he presents on pre- and post-fertilizer applications and the timeliness of applications to enhance yield potential.
