Plains Cotton Growers enjoys their partnership with Cotton Council International — the export promotion arm of National Cotton Council — as we work together to promote the fiber we produce here on the Texas High Plains.
Fourteen textile mill executives from Vietnam joined the cotton industry in Lubbock on July 30 and 31. According to the National Cotton Council, the delegation is expected to purchase an estimated 400,000 cotton bales, representing 14% of all U.S. cotton sales to Vietnam in the 2024/2025 marketing year and 5% of Vietnam’s total cotton imports.
Vietnam is the largest importer of U.S. cotton in the 2024/2025 marketing year. As of July 17, the U.S. has shipped a little over 2.9 million bales of raw cotton fiber to Vietnam during this period, according to NCC. Vietnam is also the world’s second-largest cotton fiber importer, with mills importing an estimated 7.8 million bales in the 2024/2025 marketing year. The Vietnam delegation learned about High Plains cotton production systems from PCG; Texas cotton supply and quality from America’s Cotton Marketing Cooperatives; Texas cotton quality in developmental research from Texas A&M AgriLife Research; and cotton’s sustainability mission from the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol.
