The Oklahoma Sorghum Commission and the Oklahoma Sorghum Growers association are seeking interested applicants to be considered for nomination to the United Sorghum Checkoff Program board, for a seat specifically representing Oklahoma that is up for reappointment or appointment at the end of 2025. Zack Rendel of Miami, OK, a member of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe, currently holds the seat. Rendel was appointed for the three-year term in 2022 and is eligible to serve another term.
The open Oklahoma seat provides the state’s sorghum producers with an opportunity to help guide national priorities for research, promotion, and market development of sorghum. Nominees must be sorghum producers within the United States who own or share in the ownership and risk of loss of sorghum production. A sorghum producer must be nominated by a certified producer organization and submit a completed application. The U.S. Secretary of Agriculture will make final appointments from the nominations received.
To be considered as one of Oklahoma’s two nominees for the seat, contact the Oklahoma Sorghum Commission or the Oklahoma Sorghum Growers association before Tuesday, August 26, 2025, by phone at (580) 233-9516 or online at www.oklahomaag.com
The 13-member Sorghum Checkoff board was established to maintain and expand the market for sorghum. Members serve three-year terms and represent sorghum-growing states across the country.
Since 1966, Congress has authorized industry-funded research and promotion boards to provide a framework for agricultural industries to pool resources, develop new markets, strengthen existing ones, and conduct vital research. The Sorghum Checkoff works to improve profitability for sorghum producers nationwide and is funded by producer assessments.
