Debbie Long Announces Candidacy for OK HD9

Lifelong Oklahoman, community leader, and devoted public servant Debbie Long has officially announced her candidacy to serve the communities of Claremore, Owasso, Limestone and Valley Park in Oklahoma House of Representatives, District 9. With a decades-long record of service including her current role as Mayor of Claremore, Long brings both experience and heart to her campaign, pledging to continue to represent the values, opportunities and future of the people she has called neighbors for more than 35 years.

“I’ve always believed leadership is about service,” Long said. “It’s about showing up, listening, rolling up your sleeves, and working side by side with people. District 9 deserves a representative who not only understands its history but is willing to fight for its future. That’s why I’m running.”

For two decades, Long served as the volunteer Executive Director of Leadership Rogers County, a program designed to connect citizens with opportunities to serve and lead. She facilitated conversations with state and local leaders, nonprofits, schools, and businesses—helping participants identify where their talents could make the greatest impact.

Her leadership extended into crisis response. Following the devastating EF3 tornado that struck Claremore in 2024, Long worked around the clock with local families and volunteers. She co-founded Claremore & Rogers County Disaster Assistance (CRCDA), which coordinated food, shelter, home repairs, and long-term recovery efforts.

Long’s candidacy reflects not only her dedication to District 9 but also her vision for future generations. As a small business owner of more than 35 years, she brings financial acumen and practical problem-solving to the table to address needed transparency and accountability to taxpayers, and proper oversight of budget operations in the legislature. As a former Claremore City Council member and current Mayor, she has proven her commitment to both listening and leading.

Debbie Long has been married to her husband, Eric, for 28 years. Together they have two adult children, two sons-in-law, and three grandchildren. She is a member of Destiny Life Church in Claremore and continues to serve on community initiatives.
