AFIA Committees Advocate for Animal Food Industry Issues on Capitol Hill

Five of the American Feed Industry Association’s (AFIA) member committees arrived in Washington, D.C., last week to meet with congressional offices about key policy priorities impacting the animal food industry and conduct their annual fall meetings. Attending committees included the Equine Committee, Pet Food Committee, Equipment Manufacturers Committee, Aquaculture Committee and Global Affairs Committee.

On Wednesday morning, the committee members met with over 30 U.S. Senate and House offices, advocating for several legislative priorities on behalf of the total animal food industry, including the Innovative Feed Enhancement and Economic Development Act (H.R. 2203/S. 1906) to modernize the regulation of innovative feed additives; the Securing American Agriculture Act (H.R. 1995/S. 912) to strengthen supply chain reviews for critical inputs such as vitamins and amino acids, and sustained staffing investments at the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) to support efficient trade and U.S. competitiveness. Members also voiced support for including language in the FY 2026 Agriculture Appropriations Act (H.R. 4121) related to the Pet Food Uniform Regulatory Reform (PURR) Act, which would streamline state-by-state label reviews for animal food products.

“Our member committees play a vital role in ensuring the animal food industry’s voice is heard loud and clear on Capitol Hill,” said AFIA President and CEO Constance Cullman. “From addressing supply chain vulnerabilities to advocating for regulatory modernization, their advocacy work helps secure a stronger future for our industry. We deeply value their dedication and commitment to being the voice of the animal food industry.”

The AFIA thanks all 48 committee members for their commitment to supporting and advocating for the $267.1 billion animal food industry.
