National Sorghum Producers Government Shutdown Update

With the federal government shutdown now underway, we want to share a brief summary of how this impacts USDA programs until operations resume:

  1. ✅ ECAP – The additional 14 percent payment is already out the door and is not affected.
  2. ✅ Crop Insurance – Continues without disruption.
  3. ⏸️ ARC/PLC – Payments are delayed until USDA reopens (estimated outlay: $2.3 billion).
  4. ⏸️ Farm Loans – No new loans will be made or redeemed until USDA reopens.
  5. ⏸️ SDRP Stage 2 – Rollout expected in October is likely to be delayed.
  6. ⏸️ ELRP Applications – Halted until USDA reopens.
  7. ⏸️ Block Grants – On pause until USDA reopens.

We remain hopeful lawmakers will reach an agreement soon to reopen the government and establish a long-term funding plan that avoids a prolonged shutdown.

In positive news, there is growing consensus on the need for economic relief for the 2025 crop year and on the importance of facilitating movement of commodities — priorities we continue to push for on our members’ behalf.

Additional details on USDA activities that will continue or pause during the shutdown are available here.

As always, please reach out with any questions.
