REAL ID Compliance Exceeds 50% in Oklahoma

Service Oklahoma

Six months after the federal REAL ID enforcement deadline, Service Oklahoma is proud to announce the state has exceeded a 50% REAL ID compliance rate, with more than 2.6 million REAL IDs issued.

This milestone reflects the steady demand Oklahoma has seen as residents have applied for their REAL ID credentials. Through early planning, expanded access, extended hours and multiple online tools, Service Oklahoma made it easier for Oklahomans to complete the process quickly and confidently. That preparation ensured the state was ready to meet customer needs as the May 7, 2025, enforcement deadline approached.

Crossing a 50% compliance is a clear sign of a successful, demand-driven rollout. The milestone shows that Oklahomans who wanted a REAL ID have been able to get one quickly and easily, with more continuing to do so every day. Because REAL ID is optional, many residents already have another accepted form of identification, such as a valid passport, or may not need one right now. For those who do, getting a REAL ID has never been easier.

With reduced wait times, streamlined processes and more than 270 locations statewide, most customers complete their visit with an examiner in 20 minutes or less. Service Oklahoma and its licensed operators continue to meet people where they are, ensuring that every Oklahoman who wants a REAL ID can get one without delay.

“Crossing the 50% mark is proof that efficiency and access go hand-in-hand,” said Diedra O’Neil, Chief Executive of Strategy & Operations at Service Oklahoma. “By expanding hours, adding locations and simplifying the process, we’ve made it easier than ever for Oklahomans to get a REAL ID when and where it works best for them.”

Getting a REAL ID
Although it has been six months since the May 7 enforcement deadline, Oklahomans can still apply for a REAL ID. A REAL ID or other acceptable ID, like a passport, will be required to fly domestically or enter certain federal facilities.

Check your current license for a star in the upper right corner. If it’s not there, visit service.ok.gov/REALID to view the checklist and see what documents you’ll need, including proof of identity, two proofs of Oklahoma residency and any required name change or legal presence documents.

Oklahomans need to know that permanent REAL ID-compliant credentials are mailed and typically arrive within 10 to 14 business days. The temporary paper ID provided at the time of application is not accepted for air travel.

Most visits take less than 20 minutes once you’re with an examiner and you can visit service.ok.gov/locations to find the location most convenient for you. Customers can also use the live wait map to check in online and track their place in line.
