On Wednesday, the United States Senate will vote on the next majority leader. Ahead of the vote, State Senator Dusty Deevers, R-Elgin, exhorted Oklahoma Senators James Lankford and Markwayne Mullin, in addition to the rest of the U.S. Senate, to support Rick Scott, R-Florida, for Senate Republican Leader.
“In voting 66-32% for Donald Trump with all 77 counties in agreement, Oklahomans have spoken clearly,” Deevers said. “We want unashamedly conservative leadership that aligns with our conservative values and vision. John Cornyn and John Thune represent the Mitch McConnell wing of the party: a center-left, neo-con establishment that Republican voters have made clear we do not want. According to the Heritage Action Scorecard, Cornyn is the fourth most liberal Republican Senator and Thune is the 10th. Both have conservative scores below 40 percent for the recent session. No Senator can call himself a conservative who elects someone to leadership who votes liberal more often than conservative. Rick Scott, on the other hand, is rated as the sixth most conservative US Senator.”
Deevers also pointed to online poll conducted by Elon Musk with just under 1.1 million votes yielded the following results:
1) Rick Scott (65.5%)
2) Other (22.6%)
3) John Thune (6.6%)
4) John Cornyn (5.2%)
“For those counting, that is a 60-point advantage for Rick Scott over Thune and Cornyn,” Deevers said. “The days of running on conservative talking points and governing as liberals behind closed doors are quickly coming to an end. Electing Thune or Cornyn as Senate Republican Leader would be a gut punch to an active and educated Republican base who will not forget such betrayal.” With the results of last week’s election giving federal Republicans a clear mandate to implement Trump’s Agenda 47, Deevers emphasized the importance of having a Senate Leader with a conservative record to help shepherd that agenda through the Senate.
“Those like Thune and Cornyn, who have made clear for years that their allegiance lies with Mitch McConnell and the Republican establishment rather than with the Republican base, should not be chosen to shepherd Trump’s Agenda 47 through the Senate. Mitch McConnell did nothing to cut spending, drain the swamp, promote government efficiency, secure the border, end welfare for illegals, bring industry to America, ban wokeness from schools, oppose globalists, pursue an America First foreign policy, end ESG, and countless other policies for which the Republican base just voted,” Deevers said.
“While I wish Rick Scott were stronger on a few issues and Senators such as Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Tommy Tuberville, and Ron Johnson would be the Senate Republican leaders if I had my way, there is no question that Rick Scott is the strongest candidate in the leadership race and the only one who represents a change from the center-left leadership that Mitch McConnell has given Senate Republicans for the last 17 years. I strongly urge Senators Lankford and Mullin to publicly endorse and vote for Rick Scott for Senate Majority Leader. This is a pivotal moment—an opportunity for federal Republicans to take a step forward and do the will of the people rather than the DC swamp.”
