Ben Hale Sees High Demand and Good Numbers on Feeders at Western Livestock Auctions

Listen to Ron Hays talk with Ben Hale about the latest in the cattle markets.

On Tuesdays, Senior Farm and Ranch Broadcaster, Ron Hays, visits with Ben Hale of Western Livestock Auctions as he talks about the latest in the markets and more. Established in 1995, Western has grown into a multi-generational family-owned and operated business and stands as a symbol of tradition, excellence, and a deep-rooted passion for the cattle industry. Western Livestock Auctions operates the Western Livestock Commission Firm- selling cattle on Mondays and Tuesdays. They also operate the livestock auction markets in Woodward, Comanche and Knoxville, Iowa.

The numbers remained high at Monday’s sale with 7,500 compared to 5,000 a year ago. Prices were a little softer last week, but this week was top-notch once again.

“There is lots of demand on the feeders, but we didn’t have many big heifers,” he said. “Most of the bigger heifers were seven-weights, and the steers were about the same, with a few nine-weights.”

He thinks that buyers are anticipating even higher prices in the spring, so they are trying to stock up now to keep inventory going.

Hale predicts about 400 head to sell in Woodward today, and Comanche should also have good numbers tomorrow.

Hale can be contacted at 940-631-2333. Check out more about the marketing options that Western offers by clicking here.
