Ben Hale Says Cattle Sales Experienced Market Resistance This Week

Listen to Ron Hays talk with Ben Hale about the latest in the cattle markets.

On Tuesdays, Senior Farm and Ranch Broadcaster, Ron Hays, visits with Ben Hale of Western Livestock Auctions as he talks about the latest in the markets and more. Established in 1995, Western has grown into a multi-generational family-owned and operated business and stands as a symbol of tradition, excellence, and a deep-rooted passion for the cattle industry. Western Livestock Auctions operates the Western Livestock Commission Firm, which sells cattle on Mondays and Tuesdays. They also operate the livestock auction markets in Woodward, Comanche and Knoxville, Iowa.

The market resistance that Hale has been talking about for several weeks is now being realized. Monday’s sale in Oklahoma City ran 9,500 head, compared to 12,600 at this time last year. The market values were called $2 to $7 lower.

“We knew we would have a pullback,” Hale said. “I don’t know how real it is. I guess that is what we’ll see in the days coming ahead, what they’ll do on the futures market.”

Hale described lots of quality grazing-type cattle running through the sale, yesterday.

He said that the Comanche and Woodward sales also had good runs last week. Woodward is selling some good, bred, older cows today. While he doesn’t think the remaining sales will be large this week, he expects decent runs.
