Oklahoma Winter Wheat Reaches 10 Percent Jointed, according to Latest Crop Progress Report

According to the latest Oklahoma Crop Progress and Condition ReportWinter wheat jointing reached 10 percent, up 10 points from the previous week but down 5 points from the five-year average. Conditions were rated 46 percent good to excellent, 25 percent fair, and 29 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 46 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair, and 21 percent poor to very poor.

Pasture and range conditions rated 29 percent good to excellent, 45 percent fair, and 26 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 33 percent good to excellent, 42 percent fair, and 25 percent poor to very poor.

Livestock conditions rated 59 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair, and 12 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 51 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair, and 14 percent poor to very poor.

Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 0.01 inches. According to the March 13th US Drought Monitor Report, drought conditions were rated 71 percent abnormally dry to exceptional drought, up 26 points from the previous year. Additionally, 32 percent of the state was in the moderate drought to exceptional drought categories, up 28 points from the previous year. Statewide, temperatures averaged in the lower 50’s to lower 60’s. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions were rated adequate to short. There were 5.5 days suitable for fieldwork.

In Kansas:

Winter wheat conditions rated 48 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair, and 17 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 52 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair, and 17 percent poor to very poor.

In Texas:

Winter wheat headed reached 15 percent, up 2 percentage points from the previous year but down 3 points from the five-year average. Winter wheat conditions rated 28 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair, and 39 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 28 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair, and 40 percent poor to very poor.

Corn planted reached 32 percent, equal to the previous year but down 1 percentage point from the five-year average. No corn condition ratings were provided.

Sorghum planted reached 26 percent, equal to the previous year, and up 1 point from the five-year average. No sorghum condition ratings were provided.

Range and pasture conditions rated 9 percent good to excellent, 20 percent fair, and 65 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 9 percent good to excellent, 26 percent fair, and 71 percent poor to very poor.
