Since 1979, the U.S. Department of Education has spent over $3 trillion with virtually nothing to show for it. Despite per-pupil spending having increased by more than 245% over that period, there has been virtually no measurable improvement in student achievement. President Trump’s executive order regarding the U.S. Department of Education.

  • Math and reading scores for 13-year-olds are at the lowest level in decades
  • Six-in-ten fourth graders and nearly three-quarters of eighth graders are not proficient in math.
  • Seven-in-ten fourth and eighth graders are not proficient in reading, while 40% of fourth grade students don’t even meet basic reading levels.
  • Standardized test scores have remained flat for decades.
  • U.S. students rank 28 out of 37 OECD member countries in math.

Senator Mullin, a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee published this op-ed making the case for change: https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-department-of-education-has-failed-trump-is-delivering-much-needed-reform

MULLIN STATEMENT:

“President Trump’s executive order is another promise kept to the American people. This administration ran on returning education to parents and communities, dismantling bureaucratic red tape in Washington, and removing billions of dollars in progressive DEI and gender ideology programs from America’s schools. No one can argue that federal control over education is working. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome. I fully support President Trump’s effort to bring education closer to students and families and away from cold empty buildings in Washington.” – Senator Markwayne Mullin
