Register today for the Oklahoma Beef Cattle Summit in Ada, Oklahoma

The Oklahoma Beef Cattle Summit is to be held at the Pontotoc County Agri-Plex in Ada, Oklahoma, on Thursday, April 17. The doors open at 8 a.m., and the agenda includes an impressive array of informative and educational seminars.

From 8:45 a.m. until 9:30 am, OSU’s Ryan Reuter and Australian-national Mark Trotter will speak on Virtual Fencing (Animal Behavior). We featured an episode of the Red Dirt Agronomy Podcast that included Trotter discussing his work in Australia on our website.

At 9:30 a.m., OSU’s David Lalman will talk about Beef Cattle Nutrition, and Jonathan Cammack, OSU’s Assistant Professor in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology, will discuss new biosecurity threats (ALT) at 10 a.m.

At 11 a.m., John Gilliam, Clinical Professor, Food Animal Production Medicine and Field Service at OSU, will talk to producers about euthanasia.

Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association President Michael Kelsey will provide an update on what OCA is watching at the state capitol at noon, before the meetings break up for lunch during which, Heather Buckmaster will provide an Oklahoma Beef Council update.

After lunch, at 1:30 p.m., Session 1 on Record Keeping will be presented by Brian Freking, Ada Area Livestock Specialist and Earl Ward, Northeast Area Livestock Specialist, both OSU extension agents. Breakout Session 2 will cover Environmental Stewardship with Mike Trammell and Brian Pugh, both OSU educators and agronomists.

Attendees may enjoy a short break before OSU Livestock Marketing Specialist Dr. Derrell Peel will provide a Market Outlook. The Summit will conclude with a BQA Certification and Evaluation, along with door prizes presented by Erin Hubbard and Casey Russell, OSU.
