OSU Oklahoma Water Resource Center: 2025 USGS 104g RFPs

The 2025 USGS 104g RFP is expected to be announced in the next several weeks. As this funding opportunity has a short turnaround time (often less than a month), we wanted to let you know.

The U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the National Institutes for Water Resources supports an annual call for proposals to focus on water problems and issues that are of a regional or interstate nature or relate to a specific program priority identified by the Secretary of the Interior and the Institutes.

The goals of the National Competitive Grants program are to promote collaboration between the USGS and university scientists in research on significant national and regional water resources issues; promote the dissemination and results of the research funded under this program; and to assist in the training of scientists in water resources.

Any investigator at an accredited institution of higher learning in the United States is eligible to apply for a grant through a Water Research Institute or Center established under the provisions of the Water Resources Research Act of 1984.

Proposals are accepted under the 104g General program, which supports a wide range of research topics, the 104g PFAS program, which funds research that specifically focuses on PFAS and the AIS program which funds research that specifically focus on aquatic invasive species in the upper Mississippi River basin.

Proposals involving collaboration between the USGS and university scientists are encouraged but not required. Proposals may be for projects of 1 to 3 years in duration with discreet 12-month budget periods. Investigators must match one non-federal dollar to each federal dollar requested.

2024 USGS 104g information can be found on our website here. Note…it is expected that priorities may change a bit particularly for the 104(g) General. Once the 2025 RFP is available, we will send official instruction, and you will be required to work with our Sponsored Programs Office prior to the anticipated deadline of mid-May.
