FFA Students Engage with the Oklahoma Pork Council at State Convention

Listen to Katelee Martin’s interview with Kylee Deniz and Ethan Drake about the Oklahoma Pork Council engaging with FFA members.

Katelee Martin, Reporter for the Alva FFA Chapter, found time to help us out with some interviews while she attended the State FFA Convention. She spoke with Kylee Deniz, Oklahoma Pork Council’s Executive Director, and the organization’s summer intern, Ethan Drake, a student at OSU.

Martin had noticed a large gathering of FFA students surrounding the Oklahoma Pork Council booth at the event and reached out to learn more.

Deniz detailed one of the Council’s four strategic initiatives: workforce at all levels. “What we are celebrating today are the vast opportunities there are to work in the pork industry,” she said.

To create more fun for FFA members, Deniz invited the FFA members to help in the creation of a mosaic wall, which Drake explained as a collection of small pictures that create one large picture. He said, “Students get to be one small part of a bigger thing, and its really interesting to see all of the different students over here. They are all really excited and can’t wait to find out what our mosaic wall will reveal tomorrow.”

Throughout the year, the Oklahoma Pork Council takes advantage of every opportunity it can to support young swine showmen, seeks involvement in local FFA chapters, and provides free pork lunches at various times.

Both Deniz and Drake are former FFA members and understand its value to the up-and-coming future leaders and producers of the ag industry.
