Madelyn Derks to Lead ASA’s Regulatory Efforts as Director of Government Affairs

The American Soybean Association is pleased to announce that Madelyn Derks has joined the association’s Washington, D.C., office today as Director of Government Affairs. She will oversee ASA’s regulatory portfolio, including crop protection tools, agricultural biotechnology, environmental regulations, and other key issues.

Derks most recently served as legislative director for U.S. Rep. Mark Alford (R-MO), where she managed agriculture, energy, trade, and rural broadband issues, guided the Congressman’s work on the House Appropriations Committee, and organized a farm bill listening session with more than 500 participants. She also worked for U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-MO) and as a public policy intern for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. In her congressional roles, Derks advanced legislation to protect farmer access to crop protection tools, clarify agricultural product labeling, and strengthen USDA programs, experience that aligns closely with ASA’s regulatory priorities.

“Madelyn brings a strong record of advancing agricultural policy and building coalitions to achieve results,” said Alexa Combelic, ASA senior director of government affairs. “Her expertise will be invaluable as ASA addresses complex regulatory challenges impacting soybean farmers.”
