Sen. Mullin: “Delayed Flight? Thank a Senate Democrat”

Today, U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) released the following statement on Day 34 of the Schumer Shutdown. Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 4th, the U.S. Senate is scheduled to take a fourteenth vote to re-open the federal government after Senate Democrats blocked the thirteenth bipartisan attempt to end the shutdown last week.

Note: Tomorrow, the Schumer Shutdown will also tie the record for longest U.S. government shutdown in American history—35 days.

“Yesterday, 84% of flight delays were due to staffing shortages in air traffic control towers as a result of the Schumer Shutdown,” said Senator Mullin. “While President Trump has done his best to shield Americans from the harsh consequences of a government shutdown, the only way to permanently end the hardship on Oklahoma families is for 5 more Senate Democrats to vote YES and reopen the government. I’ve voted 13 times to pay our troops, fund the SNAP and WIC programs, and turn the lights back on. I’m hopeful that after tomorrow, when the radical left will likely elect their new party leader—Communist Zohran Mamdani, enough Senate Democrats will join us in doing the right thing for the American people.”

Consequences of the Schumer Shutdown:

42 million Americans lost access to food stamps (SNAP).
20,000 flight delays or cancelations last week.
2 million Americans missed paychecks.
2 million U.S. service members working without guaranteed pay.
400,000 Dept. of War civilians performing critical missions without pay.
330,0000 Dept. of War civilians furloughed.
80% of the National Nuclear Security Administration workforce is furloughed.
750,000 kids who rely on Head Start have limited grant support.
14,000 air traffic controllers are working without pay.

Background:

Since October 1st, 2025, the U.S. Senate has taken 13 votes to re-open the federal government, fully fund WIC and SNAP, and stop inflicting pain on the American people. Mullin has voted YES on all 13 votes to re-open the government.
Last week, NBC News reported that the largest federal workers union representing 820,000 federal employees called, “for lawmakers to pass a short-term spending measure to end the government shutdown immediately, urging Democrats to abandon their current position and join Republicans in supporting a stopgap solution.”
This clean CR is the same language Chuck Schumer authored last year and has supported four times—most recently in March 2025. It has no Republican policy riders. Senate Democrats supported this clean CR 13 times under the Biden administration.
