Recapping our Legislative Week

Representative Stephanie Bice

After the record long, Democrat-driven shutdown, the House advanced major pieces of legislation to address energy, crime, and deregulation.

Congresswoman Bice issued the following statement:

“The U.S. House of Representatives remains committed to unleashing American energy production, cutting burdensome and unnecessary regulation, and protecting Americans from violent crime. A huge piece of this is the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act, which moves the LNG export permitting process away from political appointees and places it with neutral experts at FERC. This protects American energy producers from the kind of political interference we saw under President Biden, who froze LNG export permits and threatened thousands of jobs. Together, with other deregulation efforts, these bills are meaningful steps toward strengthening American energy security.

“The House also advanced strong public safety legislation to combat crime, especially in our Nation’s capital. Thanks to President Trump’s leadership, violent crime is down 22 percent, carjackings are down 83 percent, and homicides are down 29 percent.

“This was a productive legislative week, and I am encouraged by what we were able to accomplish. I will continue fighting for Oklahoma’s families, for American energy dominance, for safer communities, and for greater transparency in the government.”

Congresswoman Bice spoke on the House Floor in support of H.R. 1949. Her remarks can be viewed here.

Background:

H.R. 1949 the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act- Lifts restrictions on the import and export of natural gas and streamlines the permitting process by getting rid of the requirement for the DOE to authorize exports and giving FERC total authority over the approval process, facilitating American energy dominance and lowering costs.
H.J. Res. 13- Overturns the ban on oil and gas leasing across 1.16 million acres in ANWR, an area with an estimated 10.4 billion barrels of recoverable oil.
H.J. Res. 130- Reverses the freeze on future coal leasing in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin, protecting jobs and more than 260 million dollars in projected federal revenue.
H.J. Res 80- Blocks the plan that shut off twelve million acres in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska from future development.
H.R. 3109 the REFINER Act- Directs the Department of Energy to examine refinery capacity, identify risks, and recommend steps to strengthen America’s refining sector.
H.R. 5107 the CLEAN DC Act- Rolls back harmful parts of the 2022 DC policing law that limited officers and weakened accountability, restoring commonsense tools law enforcement needs.
H.R. 5214 the DC Cash Bail Reform Act- Ends dangerous “zero bail” practices by requiring pre-trail detention for violent offenders and reinstating cash bail for those who threaten public safety.
