Oklahoma State University Agriculture will host its annual Lahoma Wheat Field Day this week for producers to learn about wheat varieties, breeding, fertility, disease and pest and weed management.
OSU Agriculture Field Days are educational events presented by OSU Ag Research and OSU Extension to share research-based information and resources with Oklahomans. Field days showcase current agricultural research and relevant best practices through presentations, tours, hands-on workshops and discussions.
Research at OSU locations across the state is often designed for specific applications based on region.
Who: Wheat producers in north-central Oklahoma
What: OSU Agriculture Lahoma Wheat Field Day
When: 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on May 17
Where: North Central Research Station near Lahoma (GPS coordinates: 36 23’21.6”N 98 06’16.3”W)

- OSU Wheat Improvement: New Leads, New Breeds – Brett Carver, professor, wheat breeding and genetics chair
- Understanding & Combatting Wheat Diseases – Josh Bushong, area Extension agronomist
- Wheat Variety Trials of North-Central Oklahoma – Amanda Silva, assistant professor and Extension specialist, small grains
- Research and Extension Field Technology Showcase – Brian Arnall, professor and Extension specialist, precision nutrient management; Steve Phillips, associate professor, soil fertility
- Navigating Weeds in Wheat – Swati Shrestha, assistant professor and weed biologist; Liberty Galvin, assistant professor and Extension specialist, weed science
- Wheat Market Outlook: Navigating Trends, Challenges and Opportunities – Kim Anderson, professor emeritus and Extension specialist, grain marketing
Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. Continuing education units will be available. Doughnuts and coffee will be provided by the Oklahoma Wheat Growers Association, and lunch and dessert will be sponsored by Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma and Albaugh.
