Tyler Norvell Explains Changes for The 2022 Cattlemen's Congress

Tue, 11 May 2021 09:16:08 CDT

Tyler Norvell Explains Changes for The 2022 Cattlemen's Congress The second edition of Cattlemenís Congress will be Jan. 1-16, 2022 in Oklahoma City, said Tyler Norvell, president of the board of directors for Cattlemenís Congress.

The inaugural Cattlemenís Congress was held in early January this year in Oklahoma City as a replacement for the National Western Livestock Show in Denver, which was cancelled due to Covid-19.

The Oklahoma event was a tremendous success with 2,793 exhibitors from 41 states and three Canadian provinces brought almost 10,000 head of cattle to the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds.

During an interview with Radio Oklahoma Agriculture Network Associate Farm Director and Editor KC Sheperd, Norvell described some of the changes for the 2022 Cattlemenís Congress.

We want to improve our trade show and give people a reason to come to the show, Tyler said.

Improving the sales and grow the crowds is also planned for next year.

A third change will be informing local merchants the show is coming to Oklahoma City.

Many of the local merchants, including restaurants, sold out of their products because they were not prepared for the large crowds, Norvell said.

Much of the feedback following the 2021 version indicated the Cattlemenís Congress is a unique event, he said.

What makes it special is this is only cattlemen showing and marketing their cattle, Tyler said. There is no carnival, rodeo or other things going on.

Itís a show put on for cattlemen by cattlemen, Norvell said, and thatís what separates us from the rest.

The political and social climate also attracts people to the event.

People appreciate coming to a state that uses common sense and cares about agriculture and thatís where they want to leave their money, Norvell said.

We are so blessed in Oklahoma to have Gov. Stitt and Sec. of Ag Blayne Arthur and a Legislature that backs them, Norvell said.

Norvell added they plan to soon have a schedule for the 2022 event and the premium book will be published in June.
