Current cash price for Canola is $11.22 per bushel-

2012 New Crop contracts for Canola are now available at $11.44 per bushel- delivered to local participating elevators that are working with PCOM.

Many folks have the day off- and we are doing a fairly light version of the daily email for you on this Friday morning- we are spotlighting several items that happen over the next couple of weeks that we have listed on our calendar.  We remind you that you can always check out our calendar here on our website by going over to the left column and under the heading QUICK LINKS- you will see the word Calendar which you can click and that will carry you over to our website and our full calendar. I wanted to remind you of a couple of TV items for this weekend- first of all- our Saturday morning guest on our regular In the Field segment will be the President of the American Farmers & Ranchers, Terry Detrick of Ames.  You can see our visit In the Field around 6:40 AM tomorrow morning on the morning two hour news block of KWTV News9 in Oklahoma City.  

 

Also on Saturday morning- the SUNUP folks will have a special edition of SUNUP this weekend as they offer a special program they are calling "Quality Matters."  They will be focusing on Oklahoma

DroughtDrought Retreating in Oklahoma- Only 15% in Exceptional Drought.


The latest US Drought Monitor was released on Thanksgiving morning- and we have the graphic that shows the really good news for Oklahoma that for the time being- drought conditions are falling back to a much smaller part of the state. 

For the first time in forever it seems- five percent of the state is outside of any drought rating- while we are down to 15% of Oklahoma in D4- or exceptional drought.  As you might suspect- that lies in far northwestern Oklahoma and the Panhandle.

story2Grant County No-Till Conference 

 

The Grant County Conservation District will be hosting a No-till Conference on Tuesday, November 29. The conference will be held in Wakita, Okla., in the Bicentennial Building. Registration and booth and equipment displays and visitations will begin that morning at 8:30 a.m. The No-till conference will feature a variety of different speakers covering many topics. Those scheduled to present are: Jason Warren, Soil and Water Conservation Management Extension Specialist; Joe Armstrong, Weed Science Extension Specialist; Brian Arnall, Precision Nutrient Management Specialist; Chad Godsey, Cropping Systems Specialist; Randy Taylor, Machinery Specialist; Greg Scott, NRCS State Soil Scientist- Rainfall Simulator.

The 30th Annual Oklahoma Select Bull Sale and Super Bull Competition is scheduled for Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the Durant Livestock Auction, Durant, Oklahoma. The sale begins at noon, selling:


80 Hand-Selected Limousin and Lim-Flex Bulls as well as a few Angus. These bulls are mostly black, polled and many homozygous.

story4Tulsa Farm Show and Oklahoma Soybean Board Meeting 

 

The 18th Annual Tulsa Farm Show will be held December 8 to December 10 at the Tulsa State Fairgrounds in Tulsa. The Farm Show hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, and Friday, December 9. The hours on Saturday, December 10, are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Oklahoma Soybean Board Meeting will also be held on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. during the Tulsa Farm Show. The meeting will be at the Tulsa OSU Extension Office, 4116 E. 15th St., Tulsa, OK, Gate Entry #6.

The American farmers and Ranchers District Contest State Finals will be held at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla., on Saturday, December 10. The theme for this year's 67th Annual American Farmers & Ranchers Fall Speech Contest is "I Believe in Oklahoma Agriculture." Grades 4th-12th can compete in these five categories: American Farmers & Ranchers, Natural Resources, Student Organizations, Agribusiness and Agriscience.

story6Annual Wheat Growers Convention

 

The Annual Wheat Growers Convention will be held on December 10, 2011 at the Express Event Center 8512 NW Expressway Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Coffee and donuts will be served at 9:30 am and the program will start at 10:00 am. Oklahoma Wheat producers will have the opportunity to hear from many outstanding speakers covering a wide variety of topics of interest to the producers. The keynote speaker for this event will be Tom Sell of Combest, Sell and Associates. Other guest speakers include, OSU Wheat Breeder, Dr. Brett Carver, who will be giving an update on the state of wheat breeding in a new world. Retired OSU Professor, Tom Peeper, will speak on why producers need to rotate crops. Chairman of the Oklahoma House Natural resources Committee Don Armes will speak on the need for producers to be involved in the legislative process.

story72011 OSU Winter Crop School 

 

The 2011 OSU Winter Crop School will be held on December 13 and 14, 2011 in the Wes Watkins Center at Oklahoma State University. The two day conference will feature a variety of topics including canola management, nutrient management, soil fertility, drought and forages, cotton management, water management, disease management and weather outlooks. Those wishing to participate need to register by Wednesday, December 7, 2011. Cost of the OSU Winter Crop School is $125 for both days or $75 for a one day pass to either day.
