Our email this morning is a service of Midwest Farm Shows, featuring the Tulsa Farm Show December 7-9, 2006 and the Southern Plains Farm Show in Oklahoma City April 19-21, 2007. Check out details of both of these exciting shows at the official website of Midwest Farm Shows by clicking here.

Three for Three with South Korea- Another beef shipment rejected!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This time it's a ten ton shipment from an Iowa processing firm and the South Koreans claim they found seven bone fragments that ranged in size from a tenth of an inch to four tenths of an inch in length. As with the other shipments that have suffered the same fate- this 20,000 pounds of safe US beef will either be destroyed or returned at the company's expense.
Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns met with reporters on this subject yesterday- and he says that the South Korean market is no more open today than it was on this date a year ago- despite the South Korean announcement that they were opening their market back in September of this year.
It looks like it's back to government to government negotiations and it's unknown when these matters will finally be resolved. The South Korean government has gotten stupid on this one- and it's hard to back up when you are stuck in stupid. Our Beef Buzz today features Secretary Johanns and his statement to reporters- it's linked below.
Tulsa Farm Show Opening Day!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today is the first of three days for the Tulsa Farm Show- and it looks like the weather will be cold and crisp outside for this opening day- of course once you park and get inside the massive Expo Square- you will be nice and warm and facing an estimated $20 million worth of farm and ranch equipment. It's really impressive as you step into the building and see such a full range of equipment that matches up well with agriculture in the area that surrounds Tulsa.

We will be busy both today and tomorrow with a special remote broadcast on KGGF Radio based in Coffeyville, Kansas and if you live in north central or anywhere in northeast Oklahoma- you can hear us from 11:05 to noon either day on their big 690 signal.

Stop by and say howdy- we would love to get your feedback on how we can better serve the Oklahoma farm and ranch community with this email news update- our website and our radio reports on the Radio Oklahoma Network!

The Oklahoma Wheat Growers Association annual convention will be held on December 9, 2006 at the Express Event Center (8512 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City). Start time that morning will be 10 am.

Everybody loves to talk about the weather!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you are one of those that loves to talk about the weather- I would suggest you check out the link below for the latest informational update from the folks who manage the Oklahoma Mesonet. The Mesonet is a joint effort of OSU and OU- and at the National Weather Center in Norman- you find a little bit of Orange tucked away in the midst of Sooner Crimson.
Their latest news letter is out- and it shows how you can take a close look at current soil moisture and drought conditions on the Agweather news site found on the Oklahoma Mesonet.
One thing for sure- you'll be the most "in the know" person at the coffee shop once you study up on the charts they point you to in this on line newsletter.
LAGP has reached the Audit Stage
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture has now reached the audit stage in their handling of the Livestock Assistance Grant Program that Oklahoma livestock producers were able to sign up for in October and part of November. ODAFF officials tell us they have pulled about five percent of the applications to doublecheck for audit purposes- and they hope to be done with that in the fairly near future.

The latest count with almost all of the applications now accounted for stands at 1,690,464 animal units that were a part of 13,635 applications. It's remarkable how we love to put things off- as almost one third of the animal units that were put in for this disaster assistance program came in on the final couple of days of the application process!

The number of animal units is pretty close to what we have predicted might come into the program when it was announced back in September by Secretary Terry Peach. The six and half million dollars that makes up the block grant for this program will be divided over those animal units- and while the final number will be adjusted a little more- it's pretty close and will mean that for each animal unit you registered into the program- you will receive $3.84 The average application has been running around 120 animal units- it currently stands at 123 animal units on average per application and that would mean that an "average" application would receive about $472- all of this subject to the audit now underway. The ODAFF still hopes to have checks coming out before New Year's day.

NFU Disappointed- Not Surprised and Very Determined for 2007.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That pretty well describes what Tom Buis, the President of the National Farmers Union told us regarding his reaction to the death of Disaster Aid for Agriculture in the Lame Duck. Buis was in Oklahoma City for the December Board of Directors Meeting of the general farm group- hosted by their largest state affiliate- the Oklahoma Farmers Union.
Buis is convinced that Democratic leaders will be willing to run and get passed Disaster Aid early in 2007- although he admits that it would likely be months before help would arrive in farm country. Besides Disaster Aid- Buis tells us that a lot of time at the Board Meeting was spent on strategy on the farm bill and developing what the NFU principles will be on the 2007 measure. Buis says he is hopeful that NFU will have their priorities in final form to promote to Congress and especially to the Ag Committees in the first few weeks of 2007.
He does believe that we are several months away from getting a budget number for the House and Senate Ag Committees to base their proposals upon- so it's uncertain if Congress can meet the deadline of the end of September of 2007 for writing and passing new farm legislation.
