Oklahoma State Question 844 would have given state lawmakers authority to change how local entities are reimbursed by the state for property tax exemptions. It has been overwhelmingly defeated as Oklahoma has said NO with almost a 74% NO vote
Meanwhile- SQ846 has been approved by the voters of the state- final numbers show 55% of the voters voted for the State Question. Voters liked the idea of Oklahoma’s State Question 846 would place Oklahoma’s existing voter identification requirement in the state constitution rather than leaving it solely in state law.
Democrats N’Kiyla Jasmine Thomas and Jim Priest were vying for their party’s nomination for U.S. Senate. Media outlets have called the race for Thomas with over 59% of the vote. She will face Kevin Hern in the general election. The seat is currently held by Alan Armstrong, who Gov. Kevin Stitt appointed after Markwayne Mullin was sworn in as U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security.
Three GOP Nominations for statewide office, besides Governor, were decided on Tuesday. Kevin West earned 58% of the total vote for Labor Commissioner, besting John Pfeiffer by 50000 votes. State Representative West will now face Democrat Kevin Dawson and Libertarian Mike Hall in the November General Election.
Dr. Robert Franklin has secured the Republican Superintendent nomination, beating out James Taylor. Franklin, who has run on a campaign pledge to make it a priority to retain teachers in Oklahoma- he will now face Democrat Jennette Marshall in November.
Finally, GOP nominee for Insurance Commissioner is Bob Sullivan, besting Marty Quinn by over 28,000 votes. Sullivan will now face Democrat Craig MacIntyre in November.
