Crop Progress: Oklahoma Pastures Continue to Decline as Crop Conditions Show Mixed Results

In the latest Crop Progress report from USDA, the U.S. corn crop is rated 57% Good to Excellent this week, equal to last week. Soybean crop conditions are rated 58% good to excellent this week, down 2 points from last week.

The U.S. cotton crop is rated 39% good to excellent this week, up 2 points from a week ago. For the U.S. grain sorghum crop, the latest good-to-excellent ratings are 28%, up 1 point from last week.

Pasture and Range

In the southern plains, Oklahoma pasture and range conditions are now ranked 9% good to excellent, versus 11% last week and 63% a year ago. Poor to very poor ratings are now at 61%, versus 58% a week ago and 11% a year ago.

Kansas good to excellent conditions are ranked at 31% compared to 35% last week and 62% a year ago. Poor to very poor conditions are ranked 32% this week, 30% last week, and 13% a year ago.

Texas good to excellent conditions are ranked 13% this week, 16% last week, and 39% a year ago. Poor to very poor conditions are ranked 55% this week, 50% a week ago, and 24% a year ago.

The 48-state national pasture and range conditions are now at 18% good to excellent versus 21% last week and 38% one year ago. Poor to very poor ratings nationally are at 52% this week versus 50% last week and 31% one year ago. 

Corn Statistics:

Oklahoma corn dough is at 98%. Corn conditions rank as follows: 52% good to excellent, 26% fair, and 22% poor to very poor.

Kansas corn dough is at 92%. Corn conditions rank as follows: 42% good to excellent, 27% fair, and 31% poor to very poor.

Texas corn dough is at 95%. Corn conditions rank as follows: 35% good to excellent, 30% fair, and 35% poor to very poor.

Soybean statistics:

Oklahoma soybeans setting pods are at 61%. Oklahoma soybean conditions rank as follows: 22% good to excellent, 38% fair, and 40% poor to very poor.

Kansas soybeans setting pods are at 87%. Kansas soybean conditions rank as follows: 44% good to excellent, 32% fair, and 24% poor to very poor.

Texas soybeans setting pods are at 88%. Texas soybean conditions rank as follows: 53% good to excellent, 36% fair, and 11% poor to very poor.

Cotton statistics:

Oklahoma cotton setting bolls are at 95%. Oklahoma cotton conditions rank as follows: 4% good to excellent, 45% fair, and 51% poor to very poor.

Kansas cotton setting bolls are at 94%. Kansas cotton conditions rank as follows: 24% good to excellent, 48% fair, and 28% poor to very poor.

Texas cotton setting bolls are at 84%. Texas cotton conditions rank as follows: 22% good to excellent, 31% fair, and 47% poor to very poor.

Sorghum statistics:

Oklahoma sorghum headed is at 93%, up 11% from a year ago.

Kansas sorghum headed is at 83%, down 9% from a year ago.

Texas sorghum headed is at 99%, up 1% from a year ago.
