U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Oklahoma State Director Zachary Swartz announced today that the Trump Administration provided more than $77 million in water infrastructure improvements in southeast Oklahoma.
The Administration’s investment will improve the water treatment plant and distribution systems for Broken Bow and Idabel’s Public Works Authority. Additionally, upgrades will make the system compliant with Oklahoma quality regulations and provide these two communities with clean drinking water.
“President Trump cares deeply about supporting our Oklahoma farm and ranch communities, so it is a distinct honor to announce these two water infrastructure projects in southeast Oklahoma,” said Swartz. “These investments in Broken Bow and Idabel are the latest evidence of this administration’s commitment to fulfil their promise to usher in a Golden Age to Rural Oklahoma and America at large.”
“Water will be one of the biggest challenges we face as a state in the days ahead, and meeting that challenge will require local, state, and federal partners working together toward solutions. I’m grateful that, through this USDA program, the communities of Broken Bow and Idabel will receive historic upgrades in their water infrastructure. Access to clean, reliable drinking water is essential to sustaining life, but it’s also critical to growing rural communities and the families and industries that support them,” said Senator James Lankford.

The funding is provided through USDA Rural Development’s Water and Environmental Programs. Through USDA’s Rural Utilities Service, the Water and Environmental Programs help rural communities obtain the technical assistance and financing necessary to develop drinking water and waste disposal systems. Safe drinking water and sanitary waste disposal systems are vital not only to public health, but also to the economic vitality of rural America.
