Final 2022 Crop Progress Report Shows Increase in Oklahoma’s Good to Excellent Wheat and Pasture Ratings

Winter wheat conditions improved slightly last week but remained at a two-decade low, USDA NASS reported in its final weekly national Crop Progress report of 2022 released Tuesday. The weekly reports, which run from the beginning of April to the end of November each year, will resume on Monday, April 3, 2023.

Nationwide Winter Wheat:

Winter wheat emerged for U.S. reached 91 percent, even with the previous year and up 1 percentage point from the average.  

Winter wheat conditions for the 18 states reported rated 34 percent good to excellent, 40 percent fair and 26 percent poor to very poor.

Nationwide Cotton:

Cotton harvested in the U.S. reached 84 percent, even with the previous year and up 5 percentage points from the average.

Oklahoma:

Winter wheat emerged reached 95 percent, unchanged from the previous year but up 1 point from normal. Wheat conditions rated 30 percent good to excellent, 45 percent fair and 24 percent poor to very poor. (Last week, good to excellent ratings were at 23 percent.)

Cotton harvested reached 84 percent, up 1 point from the previous year and up 7 points from normal. Cotton conditions rated 5 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 64 percent poor to very poor.

Soybeans harvested reached 90 percent, up 4 points from the previous year and up 9 points from normal. Soybean conditions rated 19 percent good to excellent, 44 percent fair and 37 percent poor to very poor.

Hay:

The fifth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 70 percent, up 14 points from the previous year and up 5 points from the previous week. The fourth cutting of other hay reached 65 percent, up 17 points from the previous year and up 5 points from the previous week.

Pasture, Range and Livestock:

Livestock conditions rated 24 percent good to excellent, 56 percent fair and 20 percent poor to very poor. Pasture and range conditions rated 16 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 57 percent poor to very poor.

Since last week, good to excellent pasture and range ratings have increased by 9 percentage points!

Kansas:

Winter wheat emerged reached 87 percent, down 8 percentage points from the previous year and down 5 points from the average. Winter wheat conditions rated 21 percent good to excellent, 36 percent fair, and 43 percent poor to very poor.

Cotton harvested reached 91 percent, up24 points from the previous year and up 33 points from the average.

Range and Pasture:

Pasture and range conditions rated 6 percent good to excellent, 14 percent fair and 80 percent poor to very poor.

Texas:

Winter wheat emerged reached 85 percent, up 3 percentage points from the previous year and up 5 points from the average. Winter wheat conditions rated 21 percent good to excellent, 50 percent fair and 29 percent poor to very poor.

Cotton harvested reached 77 percent, down 3 percentage points from the previous year and up 5 points from the average. Cotton conditions rated 12 percent good to excellent, 18 percent fair and 70 percent poor to very poor.

Peanuts mature reached 95 percent, up 1 percentage point from the previous year and up 6 points from the average. Peanuts harvested reached 87 percent, even with the previous year and up 1 point from the average. Peanut conditions rated 30 percent good to excellent, 51 percent fair and 19 percent poor to very poor.

Range and Pasture:

Range and pasture conditions rated 17 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 54 percent poor to very poor.
