Chairman David Scott, Senators Stabenow, & Boozman Applaud Senate Confirmation of Alexis Taylor

Below is a statement from House Agriculture Committee Chairman David Scott following the confirmation of Alexis Taylor to be Under Secretary of Agriculture for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs:

“Whether growing up on her family’s farm, serving her country in the military, or her current role as Director of the Oregon Department of Agriculture, Alexis Taylor’s life experiences have prepared her well for this position,” said Chairman David Scott.

“Her previous experience on Capitol Hill working for Members of the House and Senate Agriculture Committees, along with her time as Deputy Under Secretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services, offers her unique insight into international and domestic farm policy and I am confident she will be able to advance U.S. agriculture across the globe in her new role as Under Secretary of Agriculture for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs. Congratulations to Under Secretary Taylor on her confirmation – I look forward to seeing her accomplishments on behalf of our food and agriculture industry,” Chairman David Scott continued.

U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), Chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, and John Boozman (R-Ark.), the Committee’s Ranking Member, today announced that the U.S. Senate confirmed Ms. Alexis Taylor, of Iowa, to be Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

“Ms. Taylor has spent her career as a dedicated public servant working for American agriculture. Throughout this process, she has proven that she understands trade and agriculture and will be an invaluable asset to USDA as they help farmers and rural communities recover from the pandemic,” said Chairwoman Stabenow.

“Alexis Taylor has a long history in agricultural trade that will make her a great asset to our farmers and ranchers in this role at USDA. I am confident she will work to increase export market access for our farmers and ranchers while working to ensure our international partners abide by the spirit of our existing trade agreements. I am pleased that the Senate moved to confirm her for the Under Secretary for Trade position before Congress adjourned and look forward to working with her as she oversees this important mission at USDA,” said Ranking Member Boozman.

The committee held a hearing to consider this nominee on Thursday, September 22, 2022.
