Jimmy and Jake Carter are father and son owners of Southern Belle Farm in McDonough, Georgia. Since the farm’s establishment in 1938, the Carters have expanded it to grow many kinds of seasonal produce and now they welcome thousands of students and families each year to visit, learn about agriculture and participate in fun activities..
The Carters recently sat down with American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall to talk about how they got into agritourism and how their mission has evolved beyond education.
Southern Belle Farm’s attractions started as an opportunity to teach the public about agriculture. Now, the Carters also take pride in providing experiences for families to share that create bonds and memories.
“We’re all guilty of sitting down at the dinner table and looking down at our phones. We think we’re spending time with our family but we’re not really with them. That’s why we create an experience that families can enjoy doing together,” Jake said.
Southern Belle Farm welcomes over 500,00 people each year from all over the world to enjoy activities like wagon rides, watching the racing pigs, sliding down the Giant Tunnel Slide and more. Guests can also taste sweet treats like strawberry shortcake and apple cider donuts.
Each year, Southern Belle Farm adds a new attraction for its guests. They are committed to providing meaningful experiences for the many families that come to visit.
