Cattle Markets Continue Strong as Producer Optimism Increases with Recent Rains

Listen to KC Sheperd talk with Bob Rodenberger about the latest in the cattle markets.

KC Sheperd, Farm Director, is back talking with Bob Rodenberger, a partner with Stockman Oklahoma Livestock Marketing, as he gives the latest on the cattle markets.

On Monday and Wednesday of this week, Rodenberger said runs were normal.

“We had 9,000 plus at what I have seen in Oklahoma City,” Rodenberger said. “I think El Reno had the same. That would be our two bigger markets; That is what we gauge our runs off of.”

Because of the rain in areas with smaller runs, like Apache, Rodenberger said runs were lighter.

“There are places that got from an inch to three inches around, which is good, so our run was lighter,” Rodenberger said. “We only had about 1,100.”

Producers are optimistic now with recent moisture yielding more hay to cut, Rodenberger said, but they are still needing ponds full.

“The market is excellent,” Rodenberger said. “It has even got an upbeat in it.”

The cow market is strong, Rodenberger added, and for those who have been waiting to sell cull cows, now is the time.
