Bob Rodenberger says Cattle Markets Continue to stay Good

Experts weigh in on drought recovery, rebuilding cattle herds
Listen to KC Sheperd visit with Bob Rodenberger at Stockman’s Livestock Auction about this week’s cattle market.

Farm Director KC Sheperd visited with Bob Rodenberger, a partner with Stockman Oklahoma Livestock Marketing, to get his insight on this past week’s cattle market.

Due to it being Memorial Day Weekend, there were no sales on Monday and Tuesday. However, Rodenberger said that didn’t stop the markets for the rest of the week.

“The markets are good,” Rodenberger said. I mean, it just continues to get a little bit better every week. We got rain around again. Couldn’t ask for things to be better. We need a good rain to get some runoff and then we’ll be set pretty good.”

Bob said the market had become stagnant around $70 to $71 for the last three to four weeks, but they’ve reached $77 to $80 now on Texas fat cattle.

“I thought we had a bigger run the week before with people anticipating that, and I think we’ll have, you know, I would think we’d have 8,500 to 9,500 this coming Monday because, you know, holiday,” Rodenberger said. “Everybody’s kind of in between.”

Rodenberger said with the holiday weekend, we can expect a bigger run next week, just as the week prior was larger in anticipation.

“I think we really stay where we’re at. Domestic demand is good,” Rodenberger said. “And we just got to keep selling this hamburger meat, and this thing will stay good.”

Bob recommends taking measures to prevent troubles if there are any unforeseen complications in the future, especially while the market’s good.
