Winter Wheat Conditions Improve Throughout Southern Plains This Week During Harvest

Throughout Oklahoma, drier conditions have allowed harvesting to progress, and warmer temperatures allowed row crops to progress quickly.

U.S. CROP PROGRESS:

Winter wheat headed for the U.S. reached 89 percent, up 4 percentage points from the previous year and up one point from the five-year average. Winter wheat harvested reached 8 percent, down one percentage point from the previous year and the average. Winter wheat conditions rated 38 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair, and 31 percent poor to very poor.

Corn emerged for the U.S. reached 93 percent, up 6 percent from the previous year and the average. Corn conditions rated 61 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair, and 8 percent poor to very poor.

Soybeans planted in the U.S. reached 96 percent, up 9 points from the previous year and up 10 points from the average. Soybeans emerged reached 86 percent, up 18 points from the previous year and up 16 points from the average. Soybean conditions rated 59 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 9 percent poor to very poor.

OKLAHOMA:

Winter wheat harvested reached 28 percent, down 2 points from the previous year but up 2 points from normal. Winter wheat conditions rated 40 percent good to excellent, 35 fair, and 25 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 36 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair, and 26 percent poor to very poor. 

Corn planted reached 89 percent, unchanged from the previous year and unchanged from normal. Corn emerged reached 79 percent, unchanged from the previous year and unchanged from normal. Corn silking reached 5 percent, up 5 points from the previous year and up 3 points from normal. Corn conditions are rated 41 percent good to excellent, 26 percent fair and 3 percent poor to very poor.

Sorghum planted reached 44 percent, up 1 point from the previous year but down 1 point from normal. Sorghum conditions rated 46 percent good to excellent, 38 percent fair, and 16 percent poor to very poor.

Soybeans planted reached 54 percent, up 1 point from the previous year but down 3 points from normal. Soybeans emerged reached 21 percent, down 7 points from the previous year.

Peanuts planted reached 84 percent, up 26 points from the previous year and up 15 points from normal. Soybean conditions rated 61 good to excellent, 37 percent fair and 2 percent poor to very poor.

Cotton planted reached 66 percent, up 5 points from the previous year and up 7 points from normal. Cotton conditions rated 97 percent good to excellent and 3 percent fair.

Hay: The first cutting of alfalfa hay reached 72 percent, up 12 points from the previous year and unchanged from normal. The first cutting of other hay reached 50 percent, down 3 points from the previous year and down 5 points from normal.

Livestock conditions rated 66 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 7 poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 59 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 13 percent poor to very poor.

Pasture and range conditions rated 59 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 12 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 53 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 12 percent poor to very poor. 

KANSAS:

Winter wheat headed was 97 percent, near 99 percent last year and 98 percent for the five-year average. Harvested was 1 percent, near 2 percent both last year and average. Winter wheat conditions rated 14 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair, and 56 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 12 percent good to excellent, 23 percent fair and 35 percent poor to very poor. 

Corn planted was 96 percent, equal to last year, and near 95 percent average. Emerged was 86 percent, near 82 percent last year, and equal to average. Corn conditions rated 56 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 11 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 51 percent good to excellent, 39 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor.

Soybeans planted was 88 percent, well ahead of 67 percent last year, and ahead of 75 percent average. Emerged was 76 percent, well ahead of 54 percent last year, and ahead of 57 percent average. Soybean conditions rated 59 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 57 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair and 6 percent poor to very poor.

Sorghum planted was 49 percent, near 52 percent last year, and behind 54 percent average. Sorghum conditions rated 57 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor.

Cotton planted was 81 percent, behind 95 percent last year and 91 percent average. Squaring was 8 percent, equal to last year, and near 4 percent average. Cotton conditions rated 47 percent good to excellent, 39 percent fair and 14 percent poor to very poor.

Pasture and range conditions rated 26 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair and 37 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 18 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair and 45 percent poor to very poor. 

TEXAS:

Winter wheat harvested reached 42 percent, down 9 points from the previous year and down 4 points from the average. Winter wheat conditions rated 36 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 32 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 29 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 37 percent poor to very poor. 

Corn planted reached 97 percent, down one point from the previous year and down two from the average. Corn emerged reached 92 percent, down 3 points from the previous year and down 2 from the average. Corn silked reached 59 percent, up one point from the previous year and up 7 points from the average. Corn dough reached 10 percent, up 6 points from the previous year and up 7 from the five-year average. Corn conditions rated 77 percent good to excellent, 20 percent fair and 3 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 73 percent good to excellent, 23 percent fair, and 4 percent poor to very poor. 

Cotton planted reached 72 percent, down 16 points from the previous year and down 10 from the average. Cotton squaring reached 12 points, down 5 points from the previous year and down 3 from the average. Cotton conditions rated 30 percent good to excellent, 47 percent fair and 23 percent poor to very poor.

Peanuts planted reached 76 percent, down 6 points from the previous year and down 3 from the average. Peanut conditions rated 42 percent good to excellent, 40 percent fair and 18 percent poor to very poor.

Sorghum planted reached 92 percent, up 3 points from the previous year and down 1 point from the average. Sorghum headed reached 42 percent, even with the previous year and down 4 points from the average. Sorghum conditions rated 53 percent good to excellent, 42 percent fair and 5 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 55 percent good to excellent, 41 percent fair and 4 percent poor to very poor.

Soybeans planted reached 82 percent, up 2 points from the previous year and down 3 points from the average. Soybeans emerged reached 65 percent, even with the previous year and down 5 points from the average. Soybeans blooming reached 10 percent, down 2 points from the previous year and down 4 points from the average. Soybean conditions rated 52 percent good to excellent, 41 percent fair, and 7 percent poor to very poor.
