USDA’s Weekly Crop Progress Shows Oklahoma Wheat Harvest 32 Percent Behind Last Year

U.S. Crop Progress:

Winter wheat headed for the U.S. reached 97 percent, up 3 percentage points from the previous year and even with the average. Winter wheat harvested reached 24 percent complete, down 15 percentage points from the previous year and down 9 points from the average. Winter wheat conditions rated 40 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 28 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 38 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair, and 29 percent poor to very poor.

Corn silking in the U.S. reached 4 percent, even with the previous year and the average. Corn conditions rated 50 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 15 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 55 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair, and 12 percent poor to very poor.

Soybeans emerged in the U.S. reached 96 percent, up 6 percentage points from the previous year and up 7 points from the average. Soybeans blooming reached 10 percent, up 4 points from the previous year and up 1 point from the average. Soybean conditions rated 51 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 14 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 54 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 12 percent poor to very poor. 

OKLAHOMA:

Winter wheat harvested reached 55 percent, down 32 percentage points from the previous year and down 24 points from normal. Winter wheat conditions rated 45 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 22 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 41 percent good to excellent, 36 percent fair, and 23 percent poor to very poor.

Corn emerged reached 92 percent, down 4 points from the previous year and down 1 point from normal. Corn silking reached 19 percent, up 3 points from the previous year and up 4 points from normal. Corn conditions rated 70 percent good to excellent, 28 percent fair and 2 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 72 percent good to excellent, 26 percent fair and 2 percent poor to very poor.

Sorghum planted reached 66 percent, down 8 points from the previous year and from normal. Sorghum conditions rated 61 percent good to excellent, 38 percent fair and 1 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 59 percent good to excellent, 40 percent fair, and 1 percent poor to very poor. 

Soybeans planted reached 70 percent, down 4 points from the previous year and down 2 points from normal. Soybeans emerged reached 38 percent, down 17 points from the previous year and down 14 points from normal. Soybean conditions rated 72 percent good to excellent, 22 percent fair and 6 percent poor to very poor.  Last week’s conditions rated 65 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair, and 2 percent poor to very poor.

Cotton planted reached 91 percent, down 2 points from the previous year and down 1 point from normal. Cotton conditions rated 76 percent good to excellent, 21 percent fair and 3 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 82 percent good to excellent, 17 percent fair and 1 percent poor to very poor. 

Peanut conditions rated 98 percent good to excellent, and 2 percent fair. Last week’s conditions rated 98 percent good to excellent, 1 percent fair and 1 percent poor to very poor.

Hay: Scattered rain showers slowed cutting of hay. The first cutting of alfalfa hay reached 88 percent, down 6 points from the previous year and down 4 points from normal. The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 34 percent, down 12 points from the previous year and down 15 points from normal. The first cutting of other hay reached 70 percent, down 6 points from the previous year and from normal.

Livestock conditions rated 63 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 62 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 7 percent poor to very poor.

Pasture and range conditions rated 53 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair and 17 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 59 percent good to excellent, 28 percent fair and 13 percent poor to very poor. 

KANSAS:

Winter wheat coloring was 91 percent, behind 97 percent for both last year and the five-year average. Mature was 58 percent, well behind 84 percent last year, and behind 77 percent average. Harvested was 21 percent, well behind 54 percent last year, and behind 38 percent average. Winter wheat conditions rated 16 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 53 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 16 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair and 54 percent poor to very poor.

Corn emerged was 96 percent, equal to last year, and near 97 percent average. Silking was 6 percent, near 8 percent both last year and average. Corn conditions rated 55 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 57 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor. 

Soybean planted was 93 percent, near 91 percent last year, and equal to average. Emerged was 85 percent, ahead of 80 percent last year, and near 83 percent average. Blooming was 4 percent, near 1 percent last year and 5 percent average. Soybean conditions rated 56 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 63 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 6 percent poor to very poor. 

Sorghum planted was 77 percent, behind 85 percent last year and 89 percent average. Headed was 3 percent, near 2 percent both last year and average. Sorghum conditions rated 52 percent good to excellent, 39 percent fair and 9 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 63 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 5 percent poor to very poor. 

Cotton planted was 96 percent, near 98 percent last year and 99 percent average. Squaring was 29 percent, near 26 percent last year, and ahead of 22 percent average. Setting bolls was 2 percent. Cotton conditions rated 51 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair and 12 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 53 percent good to excellent, 38 percent fair and 9 percent poor to very poor. 

Pasture and range conditions rated 31 percent good to excellent, 40 percent fair and 29 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 34 percent good to excellent, 41 percent fair and 25 percent poor to very poor. 

TEXAS:

Winter wheat harvested reached 74 percent, down 5 percentage points from the previous year and down one point from the average. Winter wheat conditions rated 39 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 32 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 39 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 32 percent poor to very poor. 

Corn silking reached 67 percent, down 2 percentage points from the previous year and down 6 from the average. Corn conditions rated 63 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 70 percent good to excellent, 25 percent fair and 5 percent poor to very poor. 

Cotton planted reached 93 percent, down 6 percentage points from the previous year and down 5 from the average. Cotton squaring reached 22 percent, down 6 points from the previous year and down 5 from the average. Cotton setting bolls reached 7 points, down 5 points from the previous year and down 3 from the average. Cotton conditions rated 32 percent good to excellent, 38 percent fair and 30 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 30 percent good to excellent, 38 percent fair and 32 percent poor to very poor.

Sorghum planted reached 98 percent, even with the previous year and the average. Sorghum headed reached 51 percent, down 8 percentage points from the previous year and down 7 from the average. Sorghum conditions rated 57 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor.

Peanuts pegging reached 3 percent, down 2 percentage points from the previous year and even with the average. Peanut conditions rated 54 percent good to excellent, 39 percent fair and 7 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 57 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 9 percent poor to very poor.
