Survey Finds Ribs and Corn Top Two Searched Foods to Grill in Oklahoma This Summer

Listen to KC Sheperd talk with Caroline Jones about the findings of the This Old House Survey.

Farm Director, KC Sheperd, had the chance to visit with Caroline Jones, the DPR Associate for This Old House. This Old House recently conducted a survey on the most popular and top-searched foods to grill in each state for the 4th of July holiday and over the summer.

This Old House publishes data-heavy content relating to the real estate and housing market, home improvement, and more. This summer, Jones said, This Old House took a different spin and created a fun and lighthearted survey for the July 4th holiday.

“We used Google search trends data to figure out what was the most popular search term for each state and each region of the United States,” Jones said. “We found that in Oklahoma, the top searched food to grill is ribs, actually.”

With many different ways to grill ribs, Jones said it might make sense that ribs are the top searched food to grill. In Oklahoma and Kansas, Jones said corn was the number two top searched term.

“We actually found it pretty interesting that only Texas and New York were the two states that were searching how to grill hot dogs the most, which I don’t know if this means they don’t know how to grill hot dogs or they were just trying to spice up the recipe a little bit,” Jones said.

The top two searches in the U.S., Jones said, were salmon and ribs.

“We also found a lot of healthier trends showing up like veggies, asparagus, and corn are very popular in the Midwest,” Jones said. “Northeasterners are grilling a lot of seafood like lobster, salmon, and tuna. So, we are kind of steering away from the typical hotdogs, burgers, and steaks for the 4th of July and experimenting with some more recipes.”
