Oklahoma Wheat Conditions Hold Steady Since Last Week as Harvest Comes to a Close

Another week of widespread rains and cooler weather boosted the national corn condition rating for the second week in a row, and soybean condition also improved slightly following several weeks of declines. In Oklahoma, wheat harvest is wrapping up, with some still left to be harvested in the panhandle.

U.S. CROP PROGRESS:

Corn silking reached 22 percent, up 8 percentage points from the previous year and down 1 point from the average. Corn dough reached 3 percent, up 1 point from the previous year and the average. Corn conditions rated 55 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 14 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 51 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 15 percent poor to very poor. 

Soybeans blooming reached 39 percent, up 9 percentage points from the previous year and up 4 points from the average. Soybeans setting pods reached 10 percent, up 4 percentage points from the previous year and up 3 from the average. Soybean conditions rated 51 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 15 percent poor to very poor.

Winter wheat harvested reached 46 percent, down 16 percentage points from the previous year and down 13 points from the average. Winter wheat conditions rated 40 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 28 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions 40 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair, and 29 percent poor to very poor.

Cotton squaring reached 55 percent, even with the previous year and the average. Cotton setting bolls reached 17 percent, down 4 percentage points from the previous year and down one from the average. Cotton conditions rated 48 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair, and 25 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 48 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair, and 21 percent poor to very poor.

OKLAHOMA:

Winter wheat harvested reached 95 percent, down 5 points from the previous year and down 3 points from normal. Winter wheat conditions rated 45 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 22 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated  45 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair, and 22 percent poor to very poor.

Corn silking reached 47 percent, up 10 points from the previous year and up 12 points from normal. Corn conditions rated 79 percent good to excellent, 12 percent fair and 9 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 76 percent good to excellent, 19 percent fair and 5 percent poor to very poor. 

Sorghum planted reached 95 percent, down 3 points from the previous year but unchanged from normal. Sorghum headed reached 7 percent, down 2 points from the previous year and down 4 points from normal. Sorghum conditions rated 64 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 2 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 67 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair, and 4 percent poor to very poor.

Soybeans planted reached 87 percent, down 6 points from the previous year and down 2 points from normal. Soybeans emerged reached 81 percent, up 6 points from the previous year and up 9 points from normal. Soybeans blooming reached 6 percent, up 2 points from the previous year but down 1 point from normal. Soybean conditions rated 72 percent good to excellent, 17 percent fair and 11 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 62 percent good to excellent, 20 percent fair, and 18 percent poor to very poor.

Peanuts pegging reached 5 percent, down 24 points from the previous year and down 27 points from normal. Peanut conditions rated 97 percent good to excellent, and 3 percent fair. Last week’s conditions rated  89 percent good to excellent and 11 percent fair. 

Cotton squaring reached 30 percent, down 7 points from the previous year and down 6 points from normal. Cotton conditions rated 51 percent good to excellent, 42 percent fair and 7 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated  56 percent good to excellent, 38 percent fair, and 6 percent poor to very poor. 

Hay: Second and third cuttings were delayed in some areas due to recent rains. The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 68 percent, down 12 points from the previous year and down 9 points from normal. The third cutting of alfalfa hay reached 5 percent, down 1 point from the previous year. The first cutting of other hay reached 86 percent, down 8 points from the previous year and down 5 points from normal. The second cutting of other hay reached 11 percent, down 12 points from the previous year and down 7 points from normal.

Pasture and range conditions rated 71 percent good to excellent, 23 percent fair and 6 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 67 percent good to excellent, 22 percent fair and 11 percent poor to very poor.

KANSAS:

Winter wheat mature was 92 percent, behind 100 percent last year and 98 percent for the five-year average. Harvested was 59 percent, well behind 93 percent last year and 84 percent average.

Corn silking was 36 percent, near 32 percent last year and 35 percent average. Dough was 4 percent, near 2 percent last year, and equal to average. Corn condition rated 55 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 13 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 61 percent good to excellent, 38 percent fair and 14 percent poor to very poor. 

Sorghum planted was 93 percent, near 97 percent last year, and behind 98 percent average. Headed was 8 percent, near 5 percent last year and 6 percent average. Coloring was 2 percent. Sorghum conditions rated 48 percent good to excellent, 42 percent fair and 10 poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 49 percent good to excellent, 43 percent fair, and 8 percent poor to very poor.

Cotton squaring was 57 percent, behind 64 percent last year, but ahead of 52 percent average. Setting bolls was 5 percent, near 4 percent last year and 2 percent average. Cotton conditions rated 50 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 17 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 53 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair, and 10 percent poor to very poor. 

Sunflowers planted was 88 percent, behind 93 percent both last year and average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 34 percent good to excellent, 38 percent fair and 28 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 29 percent good to excellent, 40 percent fair, and 31 percent poor to very poor.

TEXAS:

Corn silking reached 75 percent, up 2 points from the previous year and up one point from the average. Corn dough reached 57 percent, up 5 points from the previous year and up 3 from the average. Corn conditions rated 64 percent good to excellent, 26 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 67 percent good to excellent, 25 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor.

Cotton setting bolls reached 18 percent, down one point from the previous year and up 2 points from the average. Cotton conditions rated 33 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 40 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 34 percent good to excellent, 25 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor. 

Sorghum planted reached 100 percent, even with the previous year and the average. Sorghum headed reached 70 percent, up 2 percentage points from the previous year and the average. Sorghum coloring reached 50 percent, up one point from the previous year and even with the average. Sorghum conditions rated 55 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 54 percent good to excellent, 36 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor.

Peanuts pegging reached 13 percent, up one percentage point from the previous year and down one from the average. Peanut conditions rated 48 percent good to excellent, 42 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 52 percent good to excellent, 44 percent fair and 4 percent poor to very poor.

Pasture and range conditions rated 27 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 44 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 26 percent good to excellent, 23 percent fair, and 51 percent poor to very poor.
