Bob Rodenberger says Good Moisture is Helping the Cattle Markets

Listen to KC Sheperd talk with Bob Rodenberger about the current cattle markets.

KC Sheperd, Farm Director, is back talking with Bob Rodenberger, a partner with Stockman Oklahoma Livestock Marketing, as he gives the latest on the cattle markets.

“We’re just kind of normal runs as far as volume,” Rodenberger said. “A little bit lighter than what we had a year ago, which we’ve expected. A lot of people got rain, and a lot of people’s ponds have filled up.”

While rains have been a little scattered, Rodenberger said most people have had great moisture. He added this has been great for cattle producers as it’s filling their ponds and growing their grass and pastures.

“The other side of it is we’re seeing a little bit of demand for some people buying some replacement cows,” Rodenberger said.

With plenty of moisture, Rodenberger said the demand for replacement cows has gone up. Rodenberger added that he’s seen that people are trying to restock to utilize the resources that have come with the rain.

“The demand is great for the feeder cattle,” Rodenberger said. “The demand is still good for the calf market. The only thing we saw that was a little bit of pressure on was the little light calves just weighing 300.”

Rodenberger said that the market is exceptional in every aspect currently. Demand is good for cattle, and prices are good as well.

The summer heat has certainly been tough on cattle and people this July, so Rodenberger said it’s important to try and move or work cattle in the cool times of the day while we battle this.
