Oklahoma Reaches 97 Percent Wheat Harvest Completion, Behind Last Year’s 100 Percent

 U.S. corn and soybean conditions improved again last week, according to USDA NASS’ weekly Crop Progress report released Monday. Both crops also continued to mature at a slightly ahead-of-average pace.

U.S. CROP PROGRESS:

Corn silking for the U.S. reached 47 percent, up 13 percentage points from the previous year and up 4 points from the average. Corn dough reached 7 percent, up 2 points from the previous year and up 1 point from the average. Corn conditions rated 58 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair, and 13 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 55 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 14 percent poor to very poor.

Soybeans blooming reached 56 percent, up 10 percentage points from the previous year and up 5 points from the average. Soybeans setting pods reached 20 percent, up 7 points from the previous year and up 3 points from the average. Soybean conditions rated 61 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 51 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 15 percent poor to very poor.

Winter wheat harvested reached 56 percent, down 13 percent from the previous year and the average.

Cotton squaring reached 64 percent, down 8 percentage points from the previous year and down 5 points from the average. Cotton setting bolls reached 25 percent, down 5 percentage points from the previous year and down 1 from the average. Cotton conditions rated 45 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 28 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 48 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair, and 25 percent poor to very poor.

OKLAHOMA:

Winter wheat harvested reached 97 percent, down 3 percentage points from the previous year and the average.

Corn silking reached 55 percent, up 13 points from the previous year and up 8 points from normal. Corn dough reached 15 percent, up 15 points from the previous year. Corn conditions rated 76 percent good to excellent, 18 percent fair and 6 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 79 percent good to excellent, 12 percent fair and 9 percent poor to very poor.

Sorghum headed reached 11 percent, down 8 points from the previous year and down 9 points from normal. Sorghum conditions rated 72 percent good to excellent, 21 percent fair and 7 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 64 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 2 percent poor to very poor. 

Soybeans planted reached 95 percent. Soybeans emerged reached 86 percent, down 2 points from the previous year but up 2 points from normal. Soybeans blooming reached 15 percent, up 3 points from the previous year but down 1 point from normal. Soybean conditions rated 71 percent good to excellent, 24 percent fair and 5 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 72 percent good to excellent, 17 percent fair and 11 percent poor to very poor. 

Peanuts pegging reached 20 percent, down 22 points from the previous year and down 23 points from normal. Peanut conditions rated 98 percent good to excellent and 2 percent fair. Last week’s conditions rated 97 percent good to excellent and 3 percent fair. 

Cotton squaring reached 32 percent, down 21 points from the previous year and down 20 points from normal. Cotton conditions rated 68 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 1 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 51 percent good to excellent, 42 percent fair and 7 percent poor to very poor. 

Hay: The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 83 percent, down 6 points from the previous year and down 3 points from normal. The third cutting of alfalfa hay reached 24 percent, up 6 points from the previous year but down 6 points from normal. The first cutting of other hay reached 92 percent. The second cutting of other hay reached 24 percent, down 10 points from the previous year and down 3 points from normal.

Livestock conditions rated 73 percent good to excellent, 24 percent fair and 4 percent poor to very poor.

Pasture and range conditions rated 66 percent good to excellent, 26 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 71 percent good to excellent, 23 percent fair and 6 percent poor to very poor.

KANSAS:

Winter wheat mature was 97 percent, near 100 percent for both last year and the five-year average. Harvested was 71 percent, well behind 98 percent last year and 94 percent average.

Corn silking was 55 percent, ahead of 45 percent last year, and near 52 percent average. Dough was 13 percent, ahead of 8 percent last year, and equal to average. Corn conditions rated 54 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 14 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 55 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 13 percent poor to very poor.

Soybeans blooming was 46 percent, ahead of 34 percent last year, and near 42 percent average. Setting pods was 16 percent, ahead of 3 percent last year and 9 percent average. Soybean conditions rated 58 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 11 percent poor to very poor.

Sorghum planted was 96 percent, near 100 percent last year and 99 percent average. Headed was 12 percent, near 8 percent last year and 10 percent average. Coloring was 4 percent. Sorghum conditions rated 50 percent good to excellent, 40 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 48 percent good to excellent, 42 percent fair and 10 poor to very poor. 

Cotton squaring was 72 percent, behind 81 percent last year, but near 68 percent average. Setting bolls was 12 percent, behind 20 percent last year, but near 10 percent average. Cotton conditions rated 53 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 14 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 50 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 17 percent poor to very poor. 

Pasture and range conditions rated 34 percent good to excellent, 38 percent fair and 28 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated the same.

TEXAS:

Corn silking reached 78 percent, up 2 percentage points from the previous year and down 2 from the average. Corn dough reached 60 percent, down 1 point from the previous year and up 1 from the average. Corn dented reached 35 percent, down 4 points from the previous year and up 6 from the average. Corn conditions rated 61 percent good to excellent, 26 percent fair and 13 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 64 percent good to excellent, 26 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor.

Cotton squaring reached 56 percent, down 9 percentage points from the previous year and down 6 from the average. Cotton setting bolls reached 22 percent, down 2 points from the previous year and up 2 from the average. Cotton conditions rated 26 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 45 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 33 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 40 percent poor to very poor. 

Peanuts pegging reached 23 percent, down 3 points from the previous year and down 5 from the average. Peanut conditions rated 44 percent good to excellent, 51 percent fair and 5 percent poor to very poor. Soybeans emerged reached 100 percent, even with the previous year and the average. Soybeans blooming reached 70 percent, down 5 percent from the previous year and even with the average. Soybeans setting pods reached 27 percent down 1 percentage point from the previous year and down 2 from the average. Soybean conditions rated 53 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair and 17 percent poor to very poor.

Winter wheat harvested reached 97 percent, down 3 points from the previous year and down 1 point from the average. Winter wheat conditions rated 39 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 32 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated the same.

Range and pasture conditions rated 24 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 49 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 27 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 44 percent poor to very poor.
