Oklahoma Crop Progress Report Shows Good to Excellent Percentages Improved or Unchanged in All Commodities

 After improving the past few weeks, the national corn condition rating held steady last week, and soybean conditions fell slightly, according to USDA NASS’ weekly Crop Progress report released Monday. A heatwave forecast for much of the country this week will likely put even more pressure on crop conditions.

U.S CROP PROGRESS:

Corn silking for the U.S. reached 68 percent, up 10 percentage points from the previous year and up 3 points from the five-year average. Corn dough reached 16 percent, up 4 points from the previous year and up 2 points from the average. Corn conditions rated 57 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair and 13 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated the same.

Soybeans blooming reached 70 percent, up 8 percentage points from the previous year and up 4 points from the average. Soybeans setting pods reached 35 percent, up 11 percentage points from the previous year and up 4 points from the average. Soybean conditions rated 54 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 14 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 61 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor.

Cotton squaring reached 78 percent, down 1 percentage point from the previous year and the average. Cotton setting bolls reached 37 percent, down 9 points from the previous year and down 2 from the average. Cotton conditions rated 46 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair, and 24 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 45 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 28 percent poor to very poor. 

OKLAHOMA:

Corn silking reached 67 percent, up 6 points from the previous year and up 4 points from normal. Corn dough reached 29 percent, up 26 points from the previous year. Corn conditions rated 80 percent good to excellent, 16 percent fair and 4 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 76 percent good to excellent, 18 percent fair and 6 percent poor to very poor. 

Sorghum headed reached 16 percent, down 14 points from the previous year and down 13 points from normal. Sorghum coloring reached 6 percent, up 2 points from the previous year but down 1 point from normal. Sorghum conditions rated 77 percent good to excellent, 14 percent fair and 9 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 72 percent good to excellent, 21 percent fair and 7 percent poor to very poor. 

Soybeans emerged reached 91 percent, down 3 points from the previous year but unchanged from normal. Soybeans blooming reached 45 percent, up 11 points from the previous year and up 15 points from normal. Soybeans setting pods reached 5 percent, up 4 points from the previous year. Soybean conditions rated 77 percent good to excellent, 19 percent fair and 4 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 71 percent good to excellent, 24 percent fair and 5 percent poor to very poor.

Peanuts pegging reached 52 percent, up 3 points from the previous year and up 4 points from normal. Peanut conditions rated 98 percent good to excellent and 2 percent fair. Last week’s conditions rated the same.

Cotton squaring reached 79 percent, up 13 points from the previous year and from normal. Cotton setting bolls reached 25 percent, up 16 points from the previous year and up 6 points from normal. Cotton conditions rated 72 percent good to excellent, 23 percent fair, and 5 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 68 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 1 percent poor to very poor.

Hay: The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 86 percent, down 8 points from the previous year and down 7 points from normal. The third cutting of alfalfa hay reached 39 percent, down 4 points from the previous year and down 9 points from normal. The first cutting of other hay reached 95 percent. The second cutting of other hay reached 31 percent, down 10 points from the previous year and down 5 points from normal.

Livestock conditions rated 73 percent good to excellent, 21 percent fair and 6 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 73 percent good to excellent, 24 percent fair and 4 percent poor to very poor.

Pasture and range conditions rated 66 percent good to excellent, 26 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated the same.

KANSAS:

Winter wheat harvested reached 87 percent, behind last year and behind the 98 percent average.

Corn silking was 68 percent, ahead of 59 percent last year and near the 69 percent average. Dough was 24 percent, ahead of 18 percent last year and equal to average. Corn conditions rated 58 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 54 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 14 percent poor to very poor. 

Soybeans blooming reached 59 percent, ahead of last year’s 48 percent and the 55 percent average. Soybeans setting pods reached 24 percent, ahead of last year’s 10 percent and the average of 20 percent. Soybean conditions rated 58 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 11 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 58 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 11 percent poor to very poor.

Sorghum headed reached 20 percent, ahead of last year’s 11 percent and the 17 percent average. Sorghum conditions rated 52 percent good to excellent, 38 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 50 percent good to excellent, 40 percent fair, and 10 percent poor to very poor. 

Cotton squaring reached 88 percent, down from last year and the 80 percent average. Cotton setting bolls reached 36 percent, near last year’s 38 percent and ahead of the 18 percent average. Cotton conditions rated 64 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 7 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 53 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 14 percent poor to very poor. 

Pasture and range conditions rated 30 percent good to excellent, 41 percent fair and 29 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 34 percent good to excellent, 38 percent fair and 28 percent poor to very poor.

TEXAS:

Corn silked reached 85 percent, even with last year and one percentage point below the five-year average. Dough reached 68 percent, up one point from the previous year and up 3 from the average. Dented reached 55 percent, up 3 points from the previous year and up 9 from the average. Corn conditions rated 70 percent good to excellent, 25 percent fair and 5 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 61 percent good to excellent, 26 percent fair and 13 percent poor to very poor. 

Cotton squaring reached 70 percent, down 4 points from the previous year and the average. Cotton setting bolls reached 30 percent, down 12 points from the previous year and down 1 point from the average. Cotton conditions rated 24 percent good to excellent, 36 percent fair and 40 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 26 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 45 percent poor to very poor.

Peanuts pegging reached 45 percent, up 7 percent from the previous year and up 4 points from the average. Peanut conditions rated 45 percent good to excellent, 50 percent fair and 5 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 44 percent good to excellent, 51 percent fair and 5 percent poor to very poor. 

Sorghum headed reached 80 percent, down 3 points from the previous year and even with the average. Sorghum coloring reached 62 percent, even with the previous year and down 1 from the average. Sorghum mature reached 37 percent, down 6 percent from the previous year and down 2 points from the average. Sorghum conditions rated 64 percent good to excellent, 22 percent fair and 14 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 63 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor. 

Soybeans blooming reached 72 percent, down 7 percentage points from the previous year and down 2 points from the average. Soybeans setting pods reached 43 percent, even with the previous year and down 2 from the average. Soybean conditions rated 61 percent good to excellent, 24 percent fair and 15 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 53 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair and 17 percent poor to very poor.

Range and pasture conditions rated 23 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 48 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 24 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 49 percent poor to very poor.
