Bob Rodenberger Says the Weather and Cattle Markets are Both HOT This Week

Listen to KC Sheperd talk with Bob Rodenberger about the latest in the Livestock Markets.

KC Sheperd, Farm Director, is back talking with Bob Rodenberger, a partner with Stockman Oklahoma Livestock Marketing, as he gives the latest on the cattle markets.

The temperatures were not the only thing that was hot this week, Rodenberger said, as the cattle markets have continued strong.

“The killing cow market is good, the stocker market is good- we have seen a little bit of softness in the calves weighing under 350 lbs. because it is hard for people to handle them with this kind of heat, but the rest of the market has been tremendous,” Rodenberger aid.

Depending on location, Rodenberger said some producers are starting to think about rebuilding their herd, but they are still being cautious.

“Nobody is just jumping out there and overstocking,” Rodenberger said. “They are being a little more critical in their stocking rates right now, which is good.”

From here on out, Rodenberger said he does not think runs will be as big as normal due to how many cows have been sold since last spring.

“Especially in Oklahoma, if we get rain and get another wheat crop in, the demand will be tremendous for that,” Rodenberger said. “That will keep the calf market good.”
