Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) released the following statement in remembrance of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, when multiple planes were hijacked by terrorists and crashed into the World Trade Center, Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.
“Today, like every American across the nation, I am solemnly remembering the horrendous and senseless terrorist attacks 22 years ago that claimed nearly 3 thousands innocent lives,” said Cole. “While this violent act was a test of our national security, the aftermath showed Americans stand strong together in the wake of tragedy and for good in the face of evil. Today, we honor those we lost, thank the first responders and other heroes who selflessly put themselves in harm’s way and pay our respects to those who continue to defend our country and the freedoms it offers.”
“This anniversary we are also reminded that we still live in a dangerous world. As war in Ukraine continues, China and North Korea grow more aggressive and Afghanistan was retaken by the Taliban, investing in a strong national defense and deterrence is critical. Although these are unprecedented times, throughout history, the challenges Americans faced have made us come together as a strong people. We will never forget this day or the assailants that brought this tragedy to our nation on September 11, 2001, and must resolve to continue to be a beacon of freedom for the rest of the world.”
