Cooler Temps with Rain Chances this Week

Waking up to cooler temps across the state was a welcome relief! According to State Climatologist Gary McManus, there is no sign of another summer-like heat wave, and it is starting to look more like fall, “Remember, even if we do see another prolonged spate of above normal temperatures, the high temperatures won’t be to the degree (pun intended) of our previous heat wave. We’ll be well into mid-to-late September with lower sun angles and daylight hours, and we’ll see replenished soil moisture from this week’s rain. So much rain that even the cows are loving it.”

McManus says several rounds of rain will be moving through the state, including later rains throughout the rest of the day and through tonight. We will see another round come through on Wednesday and Thursday. The heaviest rains have so far been in the Eastern Panhandle, according to McManus.

While not everyone will see the rain totals add up across the state, McManus says this is the first good sign of fall we have seen in a while, “In other words…the summer as we knew it is over.” In Fact this week NW Oklahoma could see highs in the 60s for the rest of this week.

So enjoy this fall weather and hopefully more rain on the way!
