Cattle Numbers Moving Through Auction Similar to a Year Ago According to Bob Rodenberger

Listen to Reagan Calk talk with Bob Rodenberger as he gives the latest on the cattle markets.

Associate Farm Editor, Reagan Calk, is talking with Bob Rodenberger, a partner with Stockman Oklahoma Livestock marketing, as he gives the latest update on the cattle markets.

“We started out this week with a pretty much steady market,” Rodenberger said. “As the week went on, the market continued to get a little bit better.”

In terms of the numbers and volumes of cattle, Rodenberger said the markets are active.

“The total numbers of cattle moving are pretty equivalent to what they were a year ago at this time, and all of us were in the belief that we would be quite a bit less than a year ago,” Rodenberger said.

After talking to ranchers in the area, Rodenberger said people received anywhere from zero to two inches of rainfall this week. The calf market is seeing good demand, Rodenberger added, and the feeder market has been steadily rising on an up-pace since the beginning of the year.

Rodenberger said he continues to see cull cows coming through the auction.

“We are not seeing any young cows come to town,” Rodenberger said. “If they are a young cow, they are an open cow that is out of sync with everybody’s calving periods.”
