KC Sheperd, Farm Director, is back talking with Bob Rodenberger, a partner with Stockman Oklahoma Livestock Marketing, as he gives the latest on the cattle markets.
“The feeder market still looks good,” Rodenberger said. “We are seeing a little bit of resistance in this stocker trade, but that is normal and seasonal.”
Rodenberger said the percentage of heifers going into the feed yards is larger today than it was a year ago. When heifers do begin to hold back, Rodenberger said that should help maintain high prices.
Demand is what is keeping the market alive, Rodenberger said, and the big worry right now is what is going to happen regarding a government shutdown.
Any business with your local FSA office, Rodenberger said, needs to be handled as soon as possible.
“I got some statistics from a guy last night, and over the last ten years of shutdowns, the market has come back, and it has been higher after a shutdown, and it has been cheaper after a shutdown, so there is no pattern there,” Rodenberger said.
