Finally Fall in Oklahoma? Not yet…

While most of the state has enjoyed much more fall-like temperatures the past few days, it looks like summer is not ready to let go just yet! According to State Climatologist Gary McManus we will see a little more summer before we see a LOT more fall, “Now we go back to the heat of SUMMER Fall before we get to go back to FALL fall by the weekend. Thursday ahead of a front could be up in the 90s for southern OK with some compressional heating.” The next storm system arrives late Thursday, bringing a lot of wind to Oklahoma and pulling a cold front across the region.

Even though it will be warmer for the next few days, another Cold Front is on the horizon for Thursday that might even bring a few freeze warnings in certain parts of Oklahoma, “That cold front looks rather pleasant for a diversion from this week’s heat, and it could stick around awhile. Again. We may get to add to that freeze map over the weekend in the Panhandle.” The Earliest Freeze in Oklahoma was back on October 8, 2012. The Average freeze for the state is the first week of November.

As for Rain, McManus says he’s hoping to see something come along with the cold front, but right now it still looks mostly dry. And as for that Halloween Day Snow? Well McManus says its something to keep watching from Space! As we all know, Oklahoma weather is always full of surprises! Daylight savings time is coming up on November 5th this year, so we only have about a month left for the later sunset.
