Oklahoma Winter Wheat Planted Reaches 50 Percent Completion, Up from Last Year

SOUTHERN PLAINS WINTER WHEAT:

Oklahoma Winter wheat planted reached 50 percent, up 13 points from the previous year but down 3 points from normal. Winter wheat emerged reached 23 percent, up 4 points from the previous year but down 4 points from normal.

Kansas Winter wheat planted was 57 percent, ahead of 47 percent last year, and near 56 percent for the five-year average. Emerged was 28 percent, ahead of 17 percent last year, but near 29 percent average.

Texas Winter wheat planted reached 55 percent, down 2 percentage points from the previous year and up 2 from the five-year average. Winter wheat emerged reached 28 percent, up 1 point from the previous year and up 2 points from the average.

U.S. CROP PROGRESS:

Winter wheat planted for the U.S. reached 57 percent, up 4 percentage points from the previous year and even with the five-year average. Winter wheat emerged reached 29 percent, up 5 percentage points from the previous year and down 1 from the average.

Corn maturity reached 89 percent, up 4 percentage points from the previous year and the five-year average. Corn harvested reached 34 percent, up 5 points from the previous year and up 3 points from the average. Corn conditions rated 53 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair, and 18 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated the same.

Soybeans dropping leaves reached 93 percent, up 3 percentage points from the previous year and up 6 from the five-year average. Soybeans harvested reached 43 percent, up 2 percentage points from the previous year and up 6 from the average. Soybean conditions reached 51 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 18 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 52 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 17 percent poor to very poor. 

Cotton bolls opening reached 82 percent, down 1 percentage point from the previous year and even with the five-year average. Cotton harvested reached 25 percent, down 3 percentage points from the previous year and up 1 percentage point from the average. Cotton conditions rated 32 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair, and 41 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 30 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 43 percent poor to very poor.

OKLAHOMA:

Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 0.92 inches. According to the October 3rd US Drought Monitor Report, drought conditions were rated 63 percent abnormally dry to exceptional drought, down 37 points from last year. Additionally, 45 percent of the state was in the moderate drought to exceptional drought categories, down 55 points from the previous year. Statewide, temperatures averaged in the low to upper 60’s.

Winter wheat planted reached 50 percent, up 13 points from the previous year but down 3 points from normal. Winter wheat emerged reached 23 percent, up 4 points from the previous year but down 4 points from normal.

Corn mature reached 95 percent, down 1 point from the previous year but up 2 points from normal. Corn harvested for grain reached 46 percent, down 4 points from the previous year and down 8 points from normal. Corn conditions rated 66 percent good to excellent, 22 percent fair and 12 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 64 percent good to excellent, 26 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor. 

Sorghum coloring reached 93 percent, down 2 points from the previous year and down 3 points from normal. Sorghum mature reached 65 percent, down 9 points from the previous year and down 8 points from normal. Sorghum harvested for grain reached 32 percent, up 3 points from the previous year and up 1 point from normal. Sorghum conditions rated 34 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 31 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 36 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair and 27 percent poor to very poor.

Soybeans dropping leaves reached 50 percent, up 1 point from the previous year but down 1 point from normal. Soybeans harvested reached 13 percent, unchanged from the previous year and from normal. Soybean conditions rated 66 percent good to excellent, 23 percent fair and 11 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 61 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair and 9 percent poor to very poor. 

Peanuts mature reached 63 percent, down 6 points from the previous year but up 1 point from normal. Peanuts harvested reached 5 percent, up 1 point from the previous year but down 3 points from normal. Peanut conditions rated 98 percent good to excellent and 2 percent fair. Last week’s conditions rated 97 percent good to excellent and 3 percent fair.

Cotton bolls opening reached 82 percent, down 6 points from the previous year but up 1 point from normal. Cotton harvested reached 7 percent, up 6 points from the previous year and up 2 points from normal. Cotton conditions rated 9 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 56 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 9 percent good to excellent, 28 percent fair and 63 percent poor to very poor. 

Hay: The fourth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 83 percent, down 3 points from the previous year and down 6 points from normal. The fifth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 19 percent, down 5 points from the previous year but up 5 points from normal. The third cutting of other hay reached 53 percent, down 26 points from the previous year and down 4 points from normal.

Livestock conditions rated 67 percent good to excellent, 25 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 63 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor. 

Pasture and range conditions rated 37 percent good to excellent, 36 percent fair and 27 percent poor to very poor. 29 percent good to excellent, 36 percent fair, and 35 percent poor to very poor.

KANSAS:

Winter wheat planted was 57 percent, ahead of 47 percent last year, and near 56 percent for the five-year average. Emerged was 28 percent, ahead of 17 percent last year, but near 29 percent average.

Corn mature was 97 percent, near 93 percent both last year and average. Harvested was 64 percent, ahead of 59 percent last year and 55 percent average.

Soybeans dropping leaves was 89 percent, ahead of 80 percent last year and 79 percent average. Harvested was 39 percent, ahead of 28 percent last year and 21 percent average. Soybean conditions rated 20 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 48 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 18 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 50 percent poor to very poor. 

Sorghum coloring was 97 percent, near 95 percent last year and 98 percent average. Mature was 74 percent, ahead of 68 percent last year, and near 71 percent average. Harvested was 29 percent, ahead of 23 percent last year and 21 percent average. Sorghum conditions rated 32 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair and 31 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 32 percent good to excellent, 38 percent fair and 30 percent poor to very poor.

Cotton bolls opening was 92 percent, ahead of 80 percent last year and 75 percent average. Harvested was 9 percent, behind 15 percent last year, but ahead of 4 percent average. Cotton conditions rated 39 percent good to excellent, 39 percent fair and 22 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 35 percent good to excellent, 42 percent fair, and 23 percent poor to very poor. 

Pasture and range conditions rated 12 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 53 percent poor to very poor.

TEXAS:

Winter wheat planted reached 55 percent, down 2 percentage points from the previous year and up 2 from the five-year average. Winter wheat emerged reached 28 percent, up 1 point from the previous year and up 2 points from the average.

Corn mature reached 96 percent, down 3 percentage points from the previous year and up 3 points from the five-year average. Corn harvested reached 83 percent, down 1 point from the previous year and up 3 from the average. Corn conditions rated 49 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 24 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated the same.

Cotton bolls opening reached 76 percent, down 1 percentage point from the previous year and even with the average. Cotton harvested reached 32 percent, down 2 percentage points from the previous year and up 3 points from the average. Cotton conditions rated 15 percent good to excellent, 24 percent fair and 61 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 11 percent good to excellent, 24 percent fair and 65 percent poor to very poor. 

Peanuts mature reached 52 percent, up 2 percentage points from the previous year and up 9 from the average. Peanuts harvested reached 11 percent, down 6 points from the previous year and down 1 point from the average.
