Fall has Arrived in Oklahoma with Temps across the State Below the Freezing Mark

Oklahoma has been waiting for Fall and those Fall Temps have finally arrived in the state. According to State climatologist Gary McManus El Reno had a freeze this morning along with a few areas in the Panhandle, “This has been quite a cold snap. Yes, COLD. Yesterday was the first day we failed to reach a high in at least the 70s in the state since April 26. Hollis
and Kenton got close at 69 degrees.”

While the cooler temperatures are welcome, Oklahoma still needs some rain. McManus says its looking pretty desperate right now, “After that mostly dry cold front scoured the moisture from the air all the way to the Gulf. We’re building on yet another month-long (plus) dry spell, which is very bad news for our drought-plagued state.”

The Flash drought is now somewhere close to 87 Days and McManus says we do have some possibilties, “Another
possible storm system coming our way next week from up in the Gulf of Alaska, AND maybe from the south as well? There’s a tropical system down off the west coast of Central America thinking it wants organize into a tropical storm
or hurricane in the next few days.” He says the Forecast models show this next front will be headed our way later into the middle of next week, “It wouldn’t be here as a tropical system, of course. Those Pacific storms don’t survive the trek over the mountains if they head east, but the remnants can help generate showers and storms and also draw moisture from the Gulf of Mexico back up our way. It’ll carry some upper-level moisture with it (again, low-level moisture won’t make the trip over the mountains), but that can help as well. It’s a long shot, but ANY shot would be welcome in the coming weeks.”

That system could show up right before Halloween, so we’ll have to see what Shenanigans the Oklahoma Weather has in mind for Trick or Treating!
