Oklahoma Winter Wheat Conditions Show Improvements in Good to Excellent Category in This Week’s Crop Progress

SOUTHERN PLAINS WINTER WHEAT:

In Oklahoma, winter wheat planted reached 87 percent, down 2 points from the previous year and normal. Winter wheat emerged reached 72 percent, down 1 point from the previous year and down 3 points from normal. Winter wheat conditions rated 49 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 16 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 42 percent good to excellent, 44 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor.

In Kansas, winter wheat planted was 96 percent, near 92 percent for both last year and the five-year average. Emerged was 81 percent, ahead of 67 percent last year and 74 percent average. Winter wheat conditions rated 31 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 34 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 32 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 36 percent poor to very poor.

In Texas, winter wheat planted reached 78 percent, down 9 percentage points from the previous year and down 2 points from the five-year average. Winter wheat emerged reached 60 percent, down 6 points from the previous year and down 2 from the average. Winter wheat conditions rated 44 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair and 19 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 41 percent good to excellent, 44 percent fair and 15 percent poor to very poor.

U.S. CROP PROGRESS:

Winter wheat emerged reached 75 percent, up 4 percentage points from the previous year and up 2 points from the five-year average. Winter wheat conditions rated 50 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 17 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 47 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 18 percent poor to very poor.

Corn harvested reached 81 percent, down 4 percentage points from the previous year and up 4 points from the five-year average.

Soybeans harvested reached 91 percent, down 2 percentage points from the previous year and up 5 from the five-year average.

Cotton bolls opening reached 95 percent, down 4 percentage points from the previous year and down 2 points from the five-year average. Cotton harvested reached 57 percent, down 4 percentage points from the previous year and up 2 points from the average.

OKLAHOMA:

Corn harvested for grain reached 95 percent, unchanged from the previous year but up 2 points from normal. Corn conditions rated 62 percent good to excellent, 25 percent fair and 13 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated the same.

Sorghum harvested for grain reached 72 percent, down 6 points from the previous year and down 1 point from normal. Sorghum conditions rated 35 percent good to excellent, 40 percent fair and 25 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated the same.

Soybeans dropping leaves reached 95 percent, up 1 point from the previous year and up 5 points from normal. Soybeans harvested reached 57 percent, up 3 points from the previous year and up 6 points from normal. Soybean conditions rated 47 percent good to excellent, 40 percent fair and 13 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 49 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 17 percent poor to very poor. 

Peanuts mature reached 95 percent, unchanged from the previous year and from normal. Peanuts harvested reached 85 percent, up 17 points from the previous year and up 20 points from normal. Peanut conditions rated 98 percent good to excellent and 2 percent fair.

Cotton harvested reached 43 percent, unchanged from the previous year but up 5 points from normal. Cotton conditions rated 5 percent good to excellent, 55 percent fair and 40 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 3 percent good to excellent, 52 percent fair, and 45 percent poor to very poor. 

Hay: The fifth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 41 percent, down 13 points from the previous year but up 13 points from normal. The third cutting of other hay reached 84 percent, down 11 points from the previous year but up 11 points from normal. The fourth cutting of other hay reached 19 percent, down 30 points from the previous year and down 4 points from normal.

Livestock conditions rated 64 percent good to excellent, 28 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 65 percent good to excellent, 28 percent fair and 7 percent good to excellent. 

Pasture and range conditions rated 33 percent good to excellent, 36 percent fair and 31 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated the same.

KANSAS:

Winter wheat planted was 96 percent, near 92 percent for both last year and the five-year average. Emerged was 81 percent, ahead of 67 percent last year and 74 percent average. Winter wheat conditions rated 31 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 34 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 32 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 36 percent poor to very poor.

Corn harvested was 94 percent, near 93 percent last year and 90 percent average.

Soybeans harvested was 88 percent, near 87 percent last year, and ahead of 78 percent average.

Sorghum harvested was 81 percent, near 80 percent last year, and ahead of 72 percent average.

Cotton condition rated 4 percent very poor, 16 percent poor, 41 percent fair, 35 percent good, and 4 percent excellent. Cotton harvested was 42 percent, well behind 63 percent last year, but ahead of 27 percent average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 12 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 55 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 13 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair, and 55 percent poor to very poor.

TEXAS:

Winter wheat planted reached 78 percent, down 9 percentage points from the previous year and down 2 points from the five-year average. Winter wheat emerged reached 60 percent, down 6 points from the previous year and down 2 from the average. Winter wheat conditions rated 44 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair and 19 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 41 percent good to excellent, 44 percent fair and 15 percent poor to very poor.

Corn harvested reached 95 percent, down 5 percentage points from the previous year and up 1 point from the five-year average. Corn conditions rated 49 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 24 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated the same.

Cotton bolls opening reached 92 percent, down 7 percentage points from the previous year and down 4 points from the five-year average. Cotton harvested reached 47 percent, down 4 points from the previous year and down 2 from the average. Cotton conditions rated 8 percent good to excellent, 21 percent fair and 71 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 10 percent good to excellent, 25 percent fair and 65 percent poor to very poor. 

Peanuts mature reached 91 percent, up 13 percentage points from the previous year and up 20 points from the five-year average. Peanuts harvested reached 56 percent, down 3 percentage points from the previous year and up 2 from the average. Peanut conditions rated 37 percent good to excellent, 55 percent fair, and 8 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated the same.

Soybeans harvested reached 85 percent, down 4 percentage points from the previous year and down 1 point from the five-year average. Soybean conditions rated 35 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair and 28 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated the same.

Pasture and range conditions rated 12 percent good to excellent, 28 percent fair and 60 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 10 percent good to excellent, 28 percent fair, and 62 percent poor to very poor.
